St. Edwards Baseball set to face #12 Ouachita Baptist in season opener!

Share

AUSTIN, Texas – The 28th-ranked St. Edward’s baseball team will open its 2008 season Saturday afternoon when they host #12 Ouachita Baptist for a three-game series this weekend.

St. Edward’s, who is coming off of a 43-15 record and Heartland Conference Championship season in 2007, will play the Tigers on the first weekend for the second-straight season. Ouachita Baptist took two of three games from the Hilltoppers last season. That was just before the Hilltoppers won a school-record 18-straight games on their way to most wins in a single season.

The Hilltoppers return six position starters from last year’s squad and starting pitcher Patrick Colgan who finished last year with a spotless 12-0 record and 1.97 earned-run average. He was named first-team all-America for his efforts. Senior Bradley Goldsmith, who pounded out a .368 batting average with 60 runs scored and 45 runs batted in, to go along with his team-leading 29 stolen bases, returns to lead a potent offensive attack that averaged seven runs a contest. Goldsmith was named Heartland Conference Player of the Year last season.

St. Edward’s will challenge the Tigers on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The final game of the series will take place Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games will take place at Lucian-Hamilton Field and can be heard live on the St. Edward’s Athletic Website with Cameron Kushwara there to call of the action.
