Regarding Rock Chalk Talk - I have been covering the KU team for a year on the site but no one would ever confuse me with an actual scout. Truth be told, I go to almost every home game but I still cannot read pitching or evaluate batters and fielders with any more sophistication than that of the average dedicated fan. Bkm has a much better eye for these parts of the game. His contributions will help fill in gaps and make Rock Chalk Talk’s coverage more complete. In addition to covering the KU players I know bkm plans on sharing his evaluations of visiting team’s prospects as well.

Right now there are about five inches of snow on the ground here in Lawrence. The baseball team will be leaving for Hawaii on Thursday. By 5PM Friday CST they will be playing baseball in a sunny warm park. I am so ready to put this long cold winter behind me, settle into the bleachers behind home plate, feel the sun on my face and shoulders and watch a ball game. Life just has an emptiness to it when baseball is not there for you at the end of the day.

Just as an FYI (for those Texas fans), it has been announced that Cole will be starting the Saturday game at Long Beach State, which means the big lefty should also be slated to start the showcase Saturday night game of the Minute Maid Classic (the following week) against Texas. However, as was the case with Savery last season, he will be nursed along the first month, and is unlikely to be stretched beyond 3 - 4 innings max until the start of conference play mid-March.
