FROM PRESS RELEASE
WINTER PARK, Fla. – A single to left field by junior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.) drove in the winning run as the Holy Cross baseball team beat St. Joseph’s, 7-6, in extra innings, concluding it’s competition in the Rollins Baseball Week Tournament. The Crusaders improve to 4-5 on the season while the Hawks drop to 2-10.

Tied 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning, St. Joseph’s grabbed the lead as Matt Barnathan hit a two-run single up the right side of the field. The Hawks’ Joe Cook hit a leadoff double in the top of the eighth and then scored, putting St. Joseph’s ahead 6-3.

The Crusaders rallied in three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game, 6-6, as senior Gil Gomez (Lake Worth, Fla.) singled down the right field line, driving in Gorman from second. Sophomore Billy Cupelo (Franklin, Mass.) hit a two-run single to right center field, scoring senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) and sophomore Steve Soldi (Clinton, Mass.).

Scoreless in the ninth, the game pushed into extra innings. Gorman’s 11th inning RBI secured the fourth in a row for the Crusaders.

Sophomore Tommy Arrigg (Andover, Mass.) picked his first career win, pitching four scoreless innings, scattering four hits, and striking out three batters.

Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, March 12 as it hosts Assumption in the Crusaders first home doubleheader of the season. The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
