FROM PRESS RELEASE
WINTER PARK, Fla. – A two-run home run by senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) lifted the Holy Cross baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Georgetown. The Crusaders improve to 3-5 on the season while the Hoyas drop to 5-5 overall.

Georgetown grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second after Greg Pustizzi drove in Dan Capeless after grounding out to second base. The Hoyas put up another run in the top of the third as Tommy Lee scored on a fielding error from third base.

Holy Cross evened the score, 2-2, in the bottom of the fourth with aggressive base running as sophomore Billy Cupelo (Franklin, Mass.) and junior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.) scored on fielding errors.

Down 4-3, Akashian secured the victory for Holy Cross in the bottom of the fifth inning, driving his two-run homer out to right center field, making the score 4-3.

Sophomore Bobby Holmes (Sudbury, Mass.) picked his first win of season (1-1), pitching seven and two thirds innings while scattering eight hits and giving up three runs while striking out seven batters. Sophomore Tommy Arrigg (Andover, Mass.) recorded his first career save for the Crusaders.

Holy Cross returns to action tomorrow as it plays St. Joseph’s at 11:00 a.m.
