CLEVELAND, Miss. – For the first time this season, the second-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team has dropped back-to-back games as the Tigers were blanked by sixth-ranked Delta State, 9-0, Sunday afternoon in a Gulf South Conference West Division game at Boo Ferriss Field.

The Tigers (24-5 overall, 1-2) have now lost three out of their last four games and dropped the series to the Statesmen (18-7, 2-1).

Ouachita Baptist bounced into four double plays and were limited to just three hits – Rudy Jovanovski, Destan Makonnen and Drew Wurzelbacher.

Chase Baran (4-1) started on the mound for the Tigers and went 5 1/3 innings. He surrendered six runs on 11 hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts. Zach Wilbanks worked 1 2/3 innings of relief and gave up a run on one hit with two walks. Reece Dodd also saw action in relief, pitching one inning and giving up two runs on two hits with two walks.

Meanwhile Justin Smith (3-3) had plenty of run support along the way as Delta State led 6-0 going into the seventh inning. For Smith, he scattered just three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Ouachita Baptist looks to get back into the win column with a one, nine-inning game starting at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19 against Augustana (S.D.) College at Rab Rodgers Field.
