SLU pitcher Josh Black claims his first player of the week honor after recording 12 k's in 7.1 innings, setting a new season-high in strikeouts by a Southeastern pitcher.

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Lamar shortstop Travis Dunson and Southeastern Louisiana starting pitcher Josh Black claimed their first weekly honors of the season, marking two consecutive weeks a Lamar player has claimed weekly honors.

HITTER

TRAVIS DUNSON, LU, Sr., SS, The Colony, Texas

Dunson hit .545 with a .583 on-base pct. and saw his batting average climb .64 points in leading Lamar to a sweep of SFA – the first by the Cardinals since sweeping SHSU in April of 2006. The LU slugger had two hits in each of Lamar’s three games to bring his multi-hit games total to four this season and scored the game-winning run in Friday’s 7-4 win. He has hit safely in five-consecutive games and nine of the last 11 and was perfect in 16 chances at shortstop.

PITCHER

JOSH BLACK, SLU, Sr., RHP, Fountain City, Ind.

The Fountain City, Indiana native picked up Southeastern’s lone win on the week, striking out 12 over 7.1 innings to set a new season-high in strikeouts by a Southeastern pitcher. Black improved to 3-1 with a team-leading 2.17 ERA with the win.
