UT-Tyler Seniors Shine in DH Sweep of Louisiana

Seniors Andrew Damewood (Plano, Texas) and Kyle Braden (Carrollton, Texas) each hit two homeruns to combine for four of the University of Texas at Tyler’s five homeruns on the day, as the Patriots swept Louisiana College in a doubleheader, 6-5 and 13-0.

In the first game, Kyle Braden made his senior day a memorable one by hitting a walk-off solo homerun to lift the Patriots over the Wildcats, 6-5. Braden was 2-for-2 on the day with three runs and 2 RBIs.

Junior Kendall Fox (Carrollton, Texas) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while senior Corey Farra (Lewisville, Texas) was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

On the mound for UT Tyler, junior Beau Ziegler (N. Wales, Pa.) picked up the relief win, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out two batters over 1.1 innings.

In game two, the Patriots put up 16 hits in the 13-0 shutout win. Andrew Damewood hit back-to-homeruns, while Kyle Braden and junior Jared Hood (Marshall, Texas) each had one in the game.

Senior Ryan Campbell (Tomball, Texas) allowed just five hits in his complete game, shutout win on the mound. Campbell is now 7-1 on the year.

For the third time in the five year history of the program, UT Tyler has amassed 30 wins on the season. The Patriots are now 31-6 overall and 13-2 in the American Southwest Conference, while Louisiana is 15-21 and 7-8 in league play.

UT Tyler closes out its 2008 regular season on April 18 and 19, when they travel to Clinton, Miss for a three-game ASC Series with Mississippi College. Game time on Friday is at 6 p.m. and at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
