Evansville didn't need to be built. They were coming off the best season in school history: First ever MVC Regular Season Champs, First ever MVC Tourney win, first Regional bid in a long time, and they were returning most of the starters from that team. And they ended up finishing 3rd in the conference. Gene Stephenson called Evansville "The Class of the league". What was there to build? Two years might not have been enough to build it...but it sure was enough to destroy it. Build a program? Evansville didn’t need to be built.
