Hanging at the Fullerton Super Regional

Game One Final

June 6, 2008…What makes this day special? This day will always be remembered for a number of reasons. A moment of silence here please! On this day in 1944, the Battle of Normandy (D-Day) began, where 155,000 troops stormed the beaches in France. And don’t forget in 1968, the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy by Sirhan Sirhan in Los Angeles. Did you forget? What do you say we move on to lighter but, still historical news? That same fateful day in 1968, Dodgers Hall-of-Famer, Don Drysdale threw his 58th consecutive shutout inning to set a MLB record.

Let’s jump ahead 40 years to today! The start of the 2008 College Baseball Super Regionals.

The Fullerton Super Regional started out on a slow note, especially if you were stuck in the So Cal traffic. The parking lot was packed! Tailgaters from both Stanford and Fullerton littered the lot in their Cardinal and Orange gear, and cans of empty libations.

Goodwin Field, home to Cal State Fullerton and the Super Regional, has been a place where many visiting teams come with high expectations only to leave with a distant memory. Tonight, Goodwin Field was nearly at capacity. The 3500 in attendance cheered for their respective teams throughout the game. Kevin Costner, a devout Titans fan, was gracious enough to sign autographs but was often standing during the tense moments late in the game.

Goodwin Field was good to the visitors tonight. Stanford took game one and now leads the best-of-three battle.

Will Goodwin Field live up to its name for Fullerton tomorrow? Tune in, log on or come out to the game. Word on the street is the game is sold out but, tickets will be available…in the second inning!

Pac-10 baseball a perfect 2 and 0 on Day 1 of the Super Regionals.

Hopefully no Field of Dreams for you Mr. Costner.

    Nice job Brent.
