Georgia Rallies Past Miami 7-4

Georgia used a four run ninth inning to rally past the top overall seed in the College World Series 7-4 on Saturday. Miami headed into the top of the ninth with a 4-3 lead over 8-seed Georgia but two errors by Miami closer Carlos Gutierrez allowed the Bulldogs to score the upset over the Hurricanes.

Miami got on the board first in the bottomof the first inning on a solo home run by Jemile Weeks. Georgia tied the game in the top of the third inning on a single by Ryan Peisel but Miami came right back and retook the lead on a two run homer by Ryan Tekotte.

Georgia tied the game up in the top of the sixth on a two run home run by Ryan Peisel. Miami’s Yonder Alonso hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Miami the lead at 4-3 and the Canes headed into the ninth looking to close out the game. Georgia would score four runs in the inning and Georgia’s Jake Crane sent the Hurricanes down in order to close the game.

Georgia will now face the winner of the day’s first game, Stanford on Monday while Miami and Florida State will face each other in an elimination game that will pit the College World Series’ top seed (Miami) and 3-seed (Florida State).
