St. Edward’s University Baseball adds Chris Young to staff

Young, a former Freshman All-America selection at Mississippi State , will take over as assistant baseball coach. The Georgetown , Texas native played three seasons for the Bulldogs, finishing in the Top-10 all-time list for relief appearances. He was also named to the 2001 SEC All-Tournament Team and the 2001 SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player.

In 2002, Young was drafted in the 18th round by the Colorado Rockies. During the last seven years he has played for minor league clubs that were affiliated with the Rockies , Pittsburgh Pirates and Florida Marlins. His minor league career took a big jump when he was called up to the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes for the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Young’s coaching experience includes teaching pitching fundamentals at Coast to Coast Athletics and at various camps at each of his minor league stops. He also coached Georgetown High School ’s Fall baseball team and has provided private instruction in Georgetown since 2003.

He holds a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing from Mississippi State .
