The South Carolina baseball team is closing out fall practice this weekend with its annual Garnet & Black World Series. The Garnet squad pushed across four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat the Black team 7-3 in game one of a three-game set. Game one was played at the site of the new baseball stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Catcher Justin Dalles, outfielder Adam Crisp and infielder Jeff Jones each tallied two hits apiece in the victory. Freshman left-hander Michael Roth earned the victory with two innings of work in relief. Junior left-hander Grimes Medlin notched a save with two perfect innings to close out the game for Team Garnet.

Parker Bangs reached base once on a walk and pitched one scoreless inning of relief for the Black squad. Infielder Casey Rihn also had two walks and scored a run for the Black team with freshman outfielder Jackie Bradley recording a two-run single as well.

Site and time of game two of the series is still to be determined due to the weather forecast for Friday in Columbia.
