NATCHITOCHES – Kelly’s Heroes starting pitcher Ben Rodriguez tossed 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits while striking out five in leading his team to a 5-0 shutout win over Barbier’s Bombers in game four of the Demon World Series Classic.

The win knots the series up at 2-games apiece. The fifth and deciding game will be played on Wednesday at Brown-Stroud Field with the first pitch slated for a 5 p.m. start.

The Heroes scored all five of their runs in the first two innings of the game, all off of Bomber starting pitcher J.C. Bredengerd.

Heroes’ hitter Eric DeBlanc paced the office by going 2 for 2 with two runs scored. He reached base two more times after getting hit by pitches. Right fielder Garrett Vaughn drove in two runs with a second inning single.

“The Heroes did a good job of capitalizing on their opportunities in the first two innings,” said NSU head coach J.P. Davis. “And as far as Rodriguez, he was pretty dominant, to say the least. He had a good fastball, but his ability to throw the slider for strikes set the tone for the evening.”

Jimmy Heard, the winner in game one, will get the start for the Bombers on Wednesday while Clayton Cooper will get the nod for the Heroes.

The Demon World Series Classic brings to a close the fall baseball workout season for Northwestern State.
