The CBB continues our countdown to the 2009 College Baseball season with our Top 50 players to watch. We will be providing one player each day (Monday-Saturday) until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with Junior righthanded pitcher Brad Boxberger from Southern Cal checking in at the 41st spot in our countdown. He is a 6′2 195 pound righty from Foothill High School and Tustin California.

Boxberger entered the 2008 season expected to compete for the number 1 spot in the rotation. He ended up struggling by only have a 2-4 record with a 6.12 ERA including three saves. He ended up pitching a total of 50 innings where he walked 26 batters while striking out 52 batters. He gave up six homers on the year.

Boxberger’s freshman campaign in 2007 was a successful one as he became the Trojans number 1 starter by having a 3-5 record with a 3.20 ERA. He ended up finishing the season by being recognized by Rivals with a Second-team All-American selection.

Boxberger has spent the last two summers in the Cape Cod Baseball League. In 2007, he played for the Orleans Cardinals where he accumulated a 1-0 record with a 1.24 ERA. In 2008, Boxberger had 1-2 record with a 2.89 ERA while picking up 9 saves in 19 appearances. He had 28 strikeouts in his 18.2 innings of work.

We saw Boxberger pitch in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game where he impressed us with his command on the mound with a great cutter that was thrown in the mid-90’s. (Full Report on the CCBL All-Star game available here). We think Brad’s future is coming out of the pen so he can use that cutter to the best of his ability.
