FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas baseball team added 12 players to its roster for the 2010 season Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn announced this week.

Two outfielders, an infielder and nine pitchers highlight the next crop of Razorbacks as the Hogs attempt to fill some vacancies that it expects to have after the 2009 season.

“This group of players fills our needs for the future,” Van Horn said. “This takes care of our pitching needs and has a good combination of high school and junior college players. I feel good about the position players that we have in place and I’m excited about this class and the possibilities for the future.”

The Razorbacks know that they need to fill six vacancies next season after the 2009 senior class departs and also see the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft removing several more young arms off the roster. With the threat of losing some of its best pitching looming, the Razorback coaches felt as though they needed to be proactive in their recruiting efforts.

Of the 12 players Arkansas added, eight come from high schools across the country while the remaining four hail from the junior college ranks. Heavy on the right-handers, eight of the nine pitchers throw from that side complimenting a good array of returning arms for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas begins its 2009 season on Feb. 20, when it hosts Washington State at Baum Stadium. For more information regarding Razorback baseball or University of Arkansas athletics please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
