wrightstateINDIANAPOLIS — Wright State University junior Quentin Cate and freshman Michael Schum have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of April 13-19.

A native of Cambria, Calif., Cate picks up Batter of the Week accolades after going 10-for-19 (.526) with one double, one homer and six RBI in five games last week. He also registered a .737 slugging percentage and .591 on-base percentage for the Raiders.

The third baseman collected a base knock in all five contests last week, including back-to-back three-hit games on Tuesday against Miami University (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Wednesday vs. Xavier University (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBI).

Cate places among League leaders in runs (3rd, 29), total bases (T-4th, 68), hits (5th, 43), home runs (T-5th, 5) and RBI (7th, 26). He owns a .299 batting average, .472 slugging clip and .389 on-base mark through 39 tilts this season.

A native of Bright, Ind., Schum notches Pitcher of the Week honors after collecting two saves in four relief appearances last week. He fired eight scoreless innings for the Raiders, allowing just two walks and five hits while striking out seven.

The right-hander has yielded just one earned run over his last 19 outings (33.2 IP). Schum has picked up eight saves and three wins during the stretch, plus his ERA has dropped from 10.12 to 1.62.

Schum ranks among League leaders in ERA (1st, 1.62), relief appearances (1st, 22), batting average against (2nd, .214), saves (2nd, 8) and fewest walks allowed (2nd, 6). He is 3-4 overall this season.

Wright State moved its overall record to 18-21 last week. The Raiders defeated Miami and lost to Xavier in non-conference action, then took two of three from Valparaiso University in a weekend Horizon League series.

WSU is scheduled to play four conference affairs this week. The Raiders host the University of Illinois at Chicago on Tuesday and Wednesday before entertaining Valparaiso in a doubleheader on Saturday.
