PRINCETON (10/6/09) — The Princeton baseball team has announced the nine members of its Class of 2013 that are on campus and competing in the team’s fall practices. The group of players will have an immediate impact on the Princeton program when games begin in early March.
"We are very excited to have this group of players join our team," says Scott Bradley, the Robert H.B. Baldwin ‘42 Head Coach of Baseball at Princeton. "It’s a group of hard-nosed and tough players that have excelled in some of the toughest high school programs and leagues in the country."
Nate Baird is an outfielder from the San Diego area that played at San Pasqual High School. Baird is a high-level offensive player that hit above .400 in three of his four high school seasons. "Nate is a real competitor. He can swing the bat and run the bases well," says Bradley.
Matt Bowman a pitcher/middle infielder from Washington, D.C., area, where he was the Metro D.C. Player of the Year as a senior. Bowman will pitch and play in the field for the Tigers. "Matt can do everything well," says Bradley. "On the mound, he has unbelievable command of four pitches and he can also swing, run the bases and field his position very well."
Alex Flink is a switch-hitting middle infielder from Highland Park, Texas, the hometown of former Tiger two-sport star Chris Young. "Alex is a very capable second baseman/shortstop," says Bradley. "He plays hard and we’re very confident in his ability."
Steve Harrington is a two-sport athlete from Philadelphia that will play squash and baseball at Princeton. "Steve is a left-handed hitting corner infielder/outfielder who is a pretty good hitter and will get opportunities to play," says Bradley.
Zack Hermans is a polished right-handed pitcher from the Dallas area with multiple pitches who can reach the low 90s with his fastball. He has also taken swings during Fall practice. "Zack is a good pitcher from a very strong high school program," says Bradley. "He will be counted on to compete this Spring."
Kevin Link is a right-handed pitcher from one of the top high school programs in Atlanta. "Kevin is a tough competitor," says Bradley. "He can throw any pitch in any count."
John Mishu is a left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Nashville that did a post-graduate year at Lawrenceville Prep last year. "John is a good consistent hitter with power," says Bradley. "He also has a lot of speed for a big guy."
In addition to the seven freshmen above, two walk-ons, Steven Fuchs, a catcher from Princeton, and Tim Parsons, an outfielder from Chicago, are practicing with the team this Fall.
