CBB Top 100 Countdown: Number 89 Sam Gaviglio (Oregon State)

SamGaviglioheadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 89 in our countdown with Oregon State sophomore RHP Sam Gaviglio. He is a 6’1 170 pound righthander out of Ashland High School in Ashland Oregon. He picked up three letters in high school playing under Don Senestrero. In his senior season, he went a perfect 13-0 with a 0.50 ERA including 108 strikeouts while picking up 5A Pitcher of the Year award. The Tampa Bay Rays selected him in the 40th round but decided to attend Oregon State to play under Pat Casey.

Gaviglio had an outstanding freshman season as he made an immediate impact in the Beavers rotation. He finished the year with a record of 10-1SamGaviglioPitching with one save in 18 appearances including 6 starts. His ERA for the season was 2.73 with 55 strikeouts in 62 innings. Baseball America named Gaviglio as a Second-Team Freshman All-American for his accomplishments. After the season was over, he stayed in Corvallis to play in the West Coast League in which he made two appearances with a 0.00 ERA in 13 innings.
