The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 47 in our countdown with College of Charleston senior infielder Joey Bergman. He is from Jacksonville Florida and attended Bishop Kenney High School. During his senior season, Bergman had a .516 average with two homers and 33 RBI. After the season was over, Bergman decided to continue his baseball career at the College of Charleston.
Bergman’s freshman season saw him play in 36 games including 14 starts as the DH. He finished the season with a .418 average with a homer and 18 RBI. He hit an outstanding .480 with runners on base. Bergman’s sophomore season saw him play in 44 games including 20 starts as he hit .327 with a homer and 16 RBI making a majority of his appearances as the DH in 22 games.
In 2009, Bergman had his breakout season with the Cougars as he finished the season with a .452 average with 15 homers and 57 RBI in 56 games as he won the 2009 Southern Conference Player of the Year Award. His batting 
average was the 5th highest in the history of the Southern Conference. He had 100 hits in 221 at bats as he was only the fifth player in school history to have at least 100 hits in a season. He also set Southern Conference and school records by scoring 88 runs. He was also solid on the basepaths as he stole 24 bases in 26 attempts. He spent the summer of 2009 in the New England Collegiate Baseball League with the Newport Gulls. He finished the season with a .351 average with one homer and 14 RBI. He finished the year with the fourth best average in the league as he was named a NECBL All-Star. He was also named the fifth best prospect in the NECBL by Baseball America.
