The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 32 in our countdown with Florida State junior Mike McGee. He is from Port St. Lucie, FL where he attended Port St. Lucie High School. He served as a utility player in high school where he hit over .400 in three straight seasons. He was an All-State Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore and second team All-State as a Junior.
McGee made an instant impact as a freshman as he appeared in 58 games with 47 starts. He finished the season with a .344 average with six homers and 36 RBI. He also saw time on the mound as he went 7-1 with a 4.04 ERA in 12 appearances including nine starts. He held opponents to a .231 batting average against. He was named first team Freshman All-American by Rivals.com and second team Freshman All-American by the NCBWA both as a utility player.
Mike’s sophomore season failed to show a dropoff in stats as he appeared in 60 games including 58 starts as he had the second highest batting average on the team with a .379 average while leading the team with 19 homers and 78 RBI. His slugging percentage was also a team high at .768. He also finished third on the team with 13 stolen bases in 16 attempts. He also appeared in 15 games including 13 starts on the mound where he went 6-2 with a 4.04 ERA. He held opponents to a .248 average against.
