The Cape Cod Baseball League hosted the 2010 All-Star Game at Fenway Park on Wednesday evening. The Western Division picked up a 5-0 victory over the East behind a strong pitching performance from the Western Division All-Stars. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when the Western Division would scratch across a run against Braden Kapyten (Kentucky). The inning would start with Tyler Bream (Liberty) getting hit by a pitch. He would take second on a wild pitch from Kapyten who tossed a ball high over Pratt Maynard’s (NC State) head. After an Andrew Susac (Oregon State) strikeout swinging, Bream would catch the Eastern Division defense off balance by easily stealing third base. He would eventually score in that same at bat with KC Serna (Oregon) at the plate when another wild pitch would be tossed by Kapyten to give the West the 1-0 lead. Kapyten would settle down and get KC Serna and Chad Wright (Kentucky) to ground out to end the inning.
The West would tack on another run in the sixth inning with Casey McElroy (Auburn) getting a two out single to center to drive in Jordan Leyland (UC-Irvine) from second base who made an excellent slide to get around Joseph Pavone (UConn) and put the Western Division up 2-0.
The West continued their hitting ways in the seventh inning when they broke through with three runs off of Baylor’s Logan Verrett. Tony Caldwell (Auburn) led off the inning with a triple down the right field line that got by Ronnie Richardson (UCF) who made a diving attempt but couldn’t get it. He would score as the next batter KC Serna was at the plate when Verrett would throw a wild pitch giving the West the 3-0 lead. Serna eventually worked a walk to get on first. He moved up to second on a wild pickoff throw that went into the photographers well. After a Johnny Ruetigger (Arizona State) fly out to right, Serna would score on a Zach Wilson (Arizona State) double off the left field wall to give the West the 4-0 lead. Jordan Leyland brought home Wilson from second with a single to center and give the West the 5-0 lead. Verrett got out of the inning by getting Cam Seitzer (Oklahoma) to ground out to first.
Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the game so the West was able to get a 5-0 victory in the All-Star Game.
