ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia defeated Lipscomb 14-3 and Georgia Tech 8-0 to force a game 7 in the Athens regional Monday.

In the first game against Lipscomb, right fielder Matt Olson went 5-for-6 and shortstop Gordon Beckham went 4-for-6, and first baseman Rich Poythress added 5 RBIs. ATHENS, Ga. - Brad Feltes’ two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning helped Georgia Tech beat Lipscomb, 6-3, advancing the Yellow Jackets into the championship round of the Athens NCAA Baseball Regional at Georgia’s Foley Field.

Georgia Tech (41-19) will play either Lipscomb or regional host Georgia (those two teams play Sunday at 2 p.m.) Sunday at 6 p.m. A win Sunday night would send the Yellow Jackets to a Super Regional next week. ATHENS, Ga. — The Bisons of Lipscomb University were the story of the day, as the 151st ranked team in the RPI defeated the national #8 seed Georgia 10-7 at Foley Field. The win marked the first NCAA tournament victory for Lipscomb University in any sport.

ATHENS, Ga. — Freshman Deck McGuire pitched 7 strong innings for the Yellow Jackets, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 9, to help Georgia Tech (34-14) to an 11-1 road victory over in-state rival Georgia (31-16-1). McGuire improved his record to 8-0 on the season as the Yellow Jackets remain undefeated in midweek games.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Despite having the week off for final exams, the Yellow Jackets (32-13) were able to continue their hot hitting in a 10-6 victory over Coastal Carolina (36-10). Thomas Nichols, Charlie Blackmon, Jeff Rowland, and Jason Haniger each hit a home run off Coastal Carolina starter Bobby Gagg. Haniger, who led the team with 3 RBI, later hit a clutch 8th inning 2-run single to seal the victory for Georgia Tech.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia Tech took an early 2-0 lead off an RBI single from Derek Dietrich and a solo home run from Tony Plagman, but Miami’s offense proved to be too powerful for the Yellow Jackets as Miami came back to win 9-3. Hurricanes first baseman Yonder Alonso went 3-for-4 on the day with a home run and 2 RBI. Center fielder Blake Tekotte continued his hot streak, going 2-for-5 today and 9-for-15 on the series.

ATLANTA, Ga. — One day after the death of Georgia Tech pitcher Michael Hutts, the Yellow Jackets took the field and played 2 against the country’s top-ranked team. The combination of a distracted Yellow Jacket team and the potent Hurricanes offense led to two Miami victories, 10-5 in the first game and 15-5 in the second.

Center fielder Blake Tekotte led the Hurricanes, going 7-for-10 in the two games, scoring 6 runs. Second baseman Jemile Weeks and catcher Jason Hagerty both went 5-for-9 in the doubleheader. ATLANTA, Ga. — Junior DH Luke Murton went 4-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI today to lead the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (26-7, 9-6 ACC) to a 9-4 victory over in-state rival Georgia Bulldogs (20-12, 9-3 SEC). Freshman SS Derek Dietrich added three hits, and freshman Deck McGuire pitched 5 2/3 solid innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. Georgia Tech remains undefeated against mid-week opponents.

The Bulldogs were led by shortstop Gordon Beckham who went 2-for-3 with a run and a walk.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Chris Hicks earned his 7th save of the season to help lead Georgia Tech (24-5) to a 5-4 victory over East Tennessee State (6-21). The Yellow Jackets scored the first 5 runs of the game before the Buccaneers answered with 4 runs of their own, including 3 solo home runs. Luke Murton hit a two-run double to start the Yellow Jackets scoring, but 3 ETSU errors on a single play allowed Tech to score what turned out to be the deciding run.

Georgia Tech remains undefeated in mid-week games this season, but has a tough stretch of games coming up. They first head to Cary, NC, for a 3-game series against the North Carolina Tar Heels before returning home for a mid-week game against the Georgia Bulldogs and a weekend series against the Miami Hurricanes. ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia Tech scored 11 unanswered runs to rally back from a 6-2 deficit and beat the Buccaneers of East Tennessee State 13-6. Catcher Jason Haniger and first baseman Tony Plagman hit home runs for the Yellow Jackets. Charlie Blackmon and Brad Feltes added two hits each. Center fielder Jacob Fabry led the Buccaneers with 3 hits.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia Tech hit 7 home runs today in a 17-4 victory over the Alabama State Hornets. Freshman shortstop Derek Dietrich went 3-for-3 with 2 homers and a double. First baseman Tony Plagman also had 2 home runs, and outfielder Jay Dantzler added 3 hits to lead the Yellow Jackets’ offense.

Brandon Cumpton pitched 6 strong innings to earn his first collegiate victory. Zeb Hilburn gave up 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss for Alabama State.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Luke Murton hit his first two home runs of the season and team captain Brad Feltes added a grand slam to lead Georgia Tech to a 12-1 victory over cross-town rivals Georgia State.

Starting pitcher Deck McGuire moved to 4-0 on the season and helped the Yellow Jackets improve to 18-5 (5-4 ACC). Adam Knight took the loss for the Panthers, which fell to 14-8.
