HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball program and head coach Rayner Noble announced the signing of six athletes to its 2008 signing class during the early signing period.

Stockton, Calif. - In the final game of the 2008 Orange and Black World Series, the Orange Tigers gave themselves a tally in the win column with an 8-4 victory over their Black Tiger counterparts on Nov. 21.

Senior Larry Holscher (McArthur, Calif.) gave Orange a quality five-inning start, when he surrendered eight hits, while fanning four batters and offering two walks. Read the rest of this entry »

Stockton, Calif. - In the second-consecutive day of Pacific Baseball’s Orange and Black World Series, the Black Tigers secured the series after topping the Orange Tigers 10-4 on Nov. 20.

The 2008 Orange and Black World Series consists of three games from Nov. 19-21, to mark the end of fall play in 2008.

Junior Jamie Niley (Elk Grove, Calif.) took the mound for the Black team, and helped keep Orange down early on.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team kicked off its annual Red/Black World Series Wednesday evening with the Black Team defeating the Red Team in extra innings, 5-2. Freshman T.J. Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) went 2-for-4 from the plate, including a two-out, two-RBI triple in the eighth inning to secure the win for the Black squad.

Senior Michael Hill (Proctorville, Ohio/Fairland) got the start for the Black Team, while junior Andrew Burkett (Crystal Lake, Ill./Cary-Grove/Elgin CC) toed the rubber for the Red Team. Hill and Burkett each went 3.0 innings, giving up just one hit apiece, but the lone hit given up by Hill was a second-inning solo home run by junior Jim Jacquot (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East/Southwestern Illinois College) that placed the Red Team in front, 1-0.

The ‘Prothro Persicks’ swept the baseball fall world series two games to none this past weekend, winning game one 9-3 and taking game two by a score of 1-0.

Friday evening in game one, the ‘Newman Masters’ quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the ‘Prothro Persicks’ responded with three runs in the second to take the lead. The squad added to the lead with two in the third and two more in the fourth.

Reno, Nev. - The white team hit three home runs in the late innings on Wednesday morning to defeat the blue squad 7-6 in 10-innings in game five of the University of Nevada baseball teams Blue versus White series at Peccole Park. The white squad trailed in the series 2-0 but won the final three games to claim the series victory 3-2. With the series concluded the Wolf Pack has complete fall practice.

The final game of the five-game series that will conclude fall practiced is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

LAFAYETTE – The Black team won in Game 5 of the Red-Black Fall World Series on Monday night by a decisive score of 7-1, taking the title as well as earning a steak dinner on Sunday. This marks the second year in a row Black has won.

The Red team gave the Black team plenty of opportunities, posting four errors, all of which were directly involved in scoring plays or opportunities. The Black team posted one run innings in the first, second, fourth, and eighth, and had their most success in the fifth with three runs.

AMBLER, PA - Junior Ryan Thomas won two games on the mound, striking out nine batters in six innings, to earn MVP honors for the Cherry team in a 4-2 series victory over White in the Temple Baseball Fall Classic, contested over the past two weeks at Skip Wilson Field. CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati’s baseball team has announced the rosters for the annual Red/Black World Series that will be played at Marge Schott Stadium Nov. 12-21. The series opens up on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.

Seniors Cameron Satterwhite, Michael Hill, Evan Sanford, Tyler Goodro, and Jake Geglein highlight the roster for the Black team. Freshmen T.J. Jones, Kiley Jones, and sophomore Chris Peters join Goodro to comprise the infielders for the Black team, while sophomore Justin Riddell and junior Lance Durham join Satterwhite as the outfielders. The catchers for the Black team are freshman Braden Kline, and sophomore Nick Rohlfs. The pitching staff consists of Hill, Geglein, Sanford, redshirt freshman Sam Slavik, sophomore Nick Johnson, sophomore Dan Jensen, junior Brian Garman, and redshirt junior Brian Sand.

Reno, Nev. - The white team defeated the blue squad 8-6 on Monday morning at Peccole Park in game three of the University of Nevada baseball teams Blue versus White series that will conclude fall practice. The win was the first for the white team in the series as they trail 2-1 after dropped the first two games last Thursday and Friday by scores of 16-8 and 7-5 respectively.
