"With this class we elevated the level of talent," said Prado. "This is a class that I feel has a chance to be very good. They work hard and they are the kind of young men we want in our program. We don’t have to tell them about doing extra work. We don’t have them to tell them to lift. They just do it. "

Share I came across this story from Seton Hall Media Relations on incoming freshman David Bachner who was found dead at his home in Plainsboro on August 11th. According to a report from The Star-Ledger, Bachner was diagnosed with a heart condition in June as a doctor was giving him a physical for Seton Hall. He ended up wearing a heart monitor for a couple of games. He was expected to become an instant contributor to the Pirates rotation as Seton Hall gave him a full scholarship for next season. He finished his high school career with a 17-3 record with a 1.50 ERA and 236 strikeouts. You can check out a Star-Ledger report on him by clicking here. You can check out the press release from Seton Hall which is posted below.

“We feel like we’ve addressed a lot of needs with the players we were able to bring in this season. I expect us to be much more competitive this year,” said Norwood. “With so many new guys, it is going to take a while for them to gel and get to know each other. Share Randy Rosetta of The Advocate has a good article looking at how LSU’s Paul Mainieri ended up losing two key recruits near the signing deadline in Slade Heathcott and Brody Colvin. Heathcott was expected to sign as he was the 28th overall selection by the Yankees but coach Mainieri expected Colvin to end up on the field at Alex Box Stadium. Colvin actually made it all the way to campus as he was taking part in freshman orientation but the Philadelphia Phillies sent a scout to see him and put in a last ditch effort which caused Colvin to sign. These two players join three other recruits who backed out of their commitments to the National Champions. We should see how these loses affect the program in the coming years.

Share Kevin Brockway of The Gainesville Sun has an excellent article on the 2010 Florida Gators baseball program. The team received a boost with the decision of Matt den Dekker who decided to not sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates after being selected in the 16th round. He spent the summer of 2008 with the USA National Team where he hit .224 in 24 games. He finished the 2009 season with the Florida Gators with a .296 average with five homers and 37 RBI in 61 games. Coach O’Sullivan was able to hold onto seven out of his eleven recruits as they form one of the strongest recruiting classes in the country.
