DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis head baseball coach Rex Peters announced this week that five recruits have signed National Letters of Intent during the fall 2008 signing period. The prospects, in alphabetical order, are Seth Batty of Buchanan High, Karl Kobler of Cardinal Newman High, Andrew Lassen of Clayton Valley High, Andrew Rich of Washington Union High and Evan Wolf of Clovis High. Head coach Tony Rossi announced the signing of six student-athletes to binding National Letters of Intent today. Local products Kyle Baldani, Mike Fish and Robert Tedesco join Larry Balwkill, Jake Werdesheim and Justin Brantley as newcomers who will join the program next fall.

“I feel this class is every bit as good as last year’s which received an honorable mention ranking by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as one of the top recruiting classes in the country,” Rossi said. “Assistant coaches Joe Sinicola and Rob Ditoma did an outstanding job identifying and addressing our needs for next year.” Read the rest of this entry »

San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State University head baseball coach Sam Piraro has announced the signing of 10 players to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010 season during the early period.

Five of the 10 signings are currently in their senior year at Northern California high schools, with one a two-sport prep star out of San Luis Obispo, Calif. The other four are locals at junior colleges, including a pair of San Jose natives. Two of those transfers are from the Ohlone College program that first-year Spartan associate head coach Tom Kunis led in 2008 prior to returning to his alma mater. Read the rest of this entry »

PITTSBURGH– University of Pittsburgh head baseball coach Joe Jordano has announced the signings of four student-athletes for the 2010 season. Jeff Kelly, Steve Shelinsky, Royce Consigli and J.R. Leonardi have made their intentions for next year clear– they want to be Panthers. A 32-game home schedule that features 13 of the first 14 games at Johnny Reagan Field highlights the 2009 Murray State baseball schedule, announced by head coach Rob McDonald on Wednesday.

Fans will get plenty of chances to see the ‘Breds early at the friendly confines of Johnny Reagan Field. The season gets underway on Feb. 20 with a three-game home stand against South Dakota State. After a midweek tilt at Memphis (Feb. 24), the ‘Breds will host a four-game series with Illinois State (Feb. 27-March 1), followed by a midweek game against Arkansas State (March 3), four games with North Dakota State (March 6-8) and a March 11 game against Mississippi Valley State. MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball team announced its 2009 spring schedule on Friday, featuring matchups with schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, including eight games against teams that qualified for the 2008 NCAA Baseball Championship.

“We have another tough schedule in 2009,” Mercer head coach Craig Gibson said. “We face a number of schools that reached the postseason a year ago in addition to non-conference foes from the SEC and ACC. West Hartford, CT - University of Hartford baseball coach Jeff Calcaterra announced the addition of five student-athletes who will join the baseball program in the fall of 2009. All five incoming players signed National Letters of Intent on the first day of the signing period November 12th.

This year’s recruiting effort has once again broadened the scope of the baseball teams’ demographics by adding a player from Connecticut and the four surrounding states. Wearing the red and white for the 2010 season will be Andrew Barry (Boxford, MA), Tyler Corsi (Cranston, RI), Vincent Fiore (Brooklyn, NY), Anthony Mannuccia (Danbury, CT), and Brian Rice (Cherry Hill, NJ). The Tampa Tribune is reporting that George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa FLorida which serves as the spring training home of the New York Yankees will hold a doubleheader in 2010 and 2011. The CBB continues our countdown to the 2009 College Baseball season with our Top 50 players to watch. We will be providing one player each day (Monday-Saturday) until we reach number 1.

We continue our list with center fielder Jason Kipnis from Arizona State. The Northbrook, Illinois, native burst onto the scene at ASU in a big way after transferring from Kentucky. He made his presence known early with a multi-homerun game against Michigan on February 28th, one being a grand slam over the green monster in center at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. CHARLESTON, Ill. – Seventeen home dates in the month of April and five weekend series at Coaches Stadium highlight Eastern Illinois baseball’s 2009 schedule, announced by head coach Jim Schmitz.

RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State head baseball coach Elliott Avent today announced that the Wolfpack signed 13 prospective student-athletes to national letters-of-intent during the November signing period. With associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Tom Holliday spearheading NC State’s recruiting efforts, the Pack signed one catcher, four infielders, four righthanded pitchers and one lefthanded pitcher, along with three two-way players. KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State head baseball coach Mike Sansing announced the signings of twelve top student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Owls beginning in the 2009 season.

“This recruiting class, under the direction of recruiting coordinator Ryan Coe, is clearly the strongest class we’ve had since becoming Division I,” said Coach Sansing. “Coach Coe has taken a strong hold in our state and recruited not only great players, but excellent student-athletes with outstanding families.
