Sean McNally (Courtesy of Duke Media Relations)
I started this site a few years ago and one of the programs that I wanted to follow the rise to the top of the ACC and up the national level was the Duke Blue Devils. They had a new head coach who was taking over a Blue Devils program which was coming off a steroid scandal and a five unsuccessful seasons under Bill Hillier. McNally has been able to turn the attitude around in Durham as he led the Blue Devils to a 37-18-1 record in 2008 but struggled in the ACC with a 10-18-1 record. He hopes to improve the ACC record this season with a strong recruiting class and behind ace pitcher Andrew Wolcott and center fielder/closer Alexander Hassan. Read the rest of this entry »

David Price from Vanderbilt celebrates ALCS victory
Most of my readers know that I am a diehard Red Sox fan but we have to congratulate to the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays after they both advance to the 2008 World Series. The Rays ended up making the series on the arm of David Price who was the number 1 pick in the 2007 MLB draft after a standout career with the Vanderbilt Commodores. He ended up getting the final four outs in Game 7 of the ALCS protecting a two run lead. They also featured 2006 number 3 overall pick, 2005 Cape Cod League MVP, and 2006 Big West Player of the Year Evan Longoria from Long Beach State. He has played in all eleven games of the playoffs with a .262 average, six homers, and eleven RBI. Read the rest of this entry »

MOBILE, Ala. – Sean Laird homered twice and drove in five runs as South Alabama cruised to a 16-2 victory over Northwest Florida State Sunday afternoon at Stanky Field.
Northwest Florida State took an early lead a pair of runs off Jags’ starter Miles Ethridge, but USA answered with three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 lead. Ryan Bohanan got the Jags started with a triple, and Derek O’Reilly brought him in with a sacrifice fly. Laird put two more runs on the board with a homer to left field. That proved to be all the insurance USA’s pitching would need. Read the rest of this entry »
