Bradley signs Seven for 2010-2011 Season

PEORIA, Ill. - The Bradley Baseball program took advantage of the early signing period and will welcome seven new Braves to the squad in 2010-11. Of the seven new additions to the program, four are pitchers, three are junior college players and all seven hail from the Land of Lincoln.

Rutgers Baseball Announces 2010-2011 Recruiting Class

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 19, 2009) – Rutgers head baseball coach Fred Hill has announced the signing of seven scholastic standouts to National Letters of Intent.

The group includes infielder Nick Favatella (Washington Township, N.J.), outfielders Joseph D’Annunzio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and Brian O’Grady (Warminster, Pa.), catcher Michael Zavala (Randolph, N.J.) and pitchers Charlie Lasky (Freehold, N.J.), Slater McCue (Radnor, Pa.) and Andrew Sullivan (Monroe, N.J.).

Wichita State signs Seven for 2011

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State has received a national letter-of-intent from seven baseball players in the early signing period, Head Coach Gene Stephenson announced Nov. 17.

Bob Arens, a catcher from Northwest High School in Wichita, Kan.; Zach Beringer, a right-handed pitcher form Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Mo.; Cale Elam, a right-handed pitcher and infielder from Oktaha High School in Oktaha, Okla.; Kris Gardner, a left-handed pitcher from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Texas; Josh Halbert, an infielder from Choctaw High School in Choctaw, Okla.; Albert Minnis, a left-handed pitcher from Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kan.; and Dayne Parker, a shortstop from Roff High School in Roff, Okla., have signed national letters-of-intent with the Shockers.

MattZielinskiRichmond UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Third-year head coach Mark McQueen has announced the University of Richmond’s 2010 baseball schedule, with the Spiders set to play seven NCAA Regional teams, two College World Series participants, along with 29 home games at historic Pitt Field.

The Spiders’ aggressive 56-game schedule features seven teams that reached the Regionals of the 2009 NCAA Tournament – Virginia, North Carolina, George Mason, Ohio State, Xavier, Oklahoma and Jacksonville. The Cavaliers and the Tar Heels each reached the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Charlotte2010Schedule CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte 49ers will face four teams that made the NCAA Tournament, including a pair of NCAA Super Regional participants and one team that advanced to the College World Series last season on the 2010 Charlotte baseball schedule, announced today.

Charlotte will play 23 of its first 28 games in the friendly confines of Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium, which opened on March 30, 2007. Charlotte is 59-20 at home in that span (.747 winning percentage) overall and 28-11 in conference games (.718 winning percentage) at home since 2007.

JimFosterURI KINGSTON, R.I. – The Rhode Island baseball program has released its 2010 schedule, which is highlighted by a trip to Virginia for a three-game series against the Cavaliers, who participated in the 2009 College World Series.

After a record-breaking season in 2009 – where the Rams set new single-season marks in wins, hits, runs, doubles, home runs and fielding percentage – the 2010 squad will look to pick up where it left off, returning all but three starters (two pitchers, one infielder) from a year ago.

BenThomasHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 80 in our countdown with Xavier junior two-way player Ben Thomas from Columbus Ohio where he attended Westerville Central High School. He played all four seasons of high school ball under Scott Walberry where he was named All-Ohio Capital Conference and First-Team All-District as a senior. Multiple scouting services named Thomas the top high school prospect in Ohio but decided to head to Xavier.

nesseth_croppedPhoto Nebraska head coach Mike Anderson has released the 2010 slate for his Cornhuskers.  The Huskers finished a disappointing last place in the Big 12 last year but are looking to get back to being a mainstay at the College World Series like they were at the start of the decade.

The Huskers will begin the 2010 season on the West Coast, as they travel to California to take on Fresno State (Feb. 19-22) in a four game set.  Nebraska will then visit Houston, Texas, to take part in the Rice Invitational (Feb. 26-28) where they will play games against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, host Rice, and Elon.

TimBrownGW WASHINGTON, DC – George Washington Head Baseball Coach Steve Mrowka has announced the addition of Tim Brown as an assistant coach. Brown spent the 2009 season as a volunteer assistant coach in his first year with the Colonials staff.

"The hiring of Tim Brown allows us to maintain some continuity in the coaching of our pitchers," said Mrowka. "Last season, Tim was our volunteer pitching coach and he did an excellent job in that role. I fully expect him to excel as the full-time pitching coach. His commitment to GW and outstanding work ethic will be a nice asset in our recruiting efforts as well."

URIBaseballAutismWalk The Rhode Island Rams baseball program recently took part in the Walk Now for Autism Event at Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island. The baseball program has a special connection to Autism as head coach Jim Foster’s daughter Delaney is affected by the disease. The team was some of the over 3,000 walkers who ended up raising over $191,000 for the cause. You can check out the full press release below.
