I know we don’t cover Minor League baseball in general but the 2008 USA Baseball Team was announced today with a bunch of players with collegiate experience in the last few seasons including one player who will be entering his junior season at San Diego State in the fall. Bryant Hernandez and Elliott Blair (Lodi Grapesox) were both named Wednesday to the Sierra Baseball League All-Star game. The game is set for July 12 at historic Tony Zupo Field in Lodi, Calif. Hernandez is currently hitting .325 with one home run, 11 RBIs and four stolen bases. Blair has been on a tear lately, raising his average to .311 with three home runs, 14 RBIs and seven extra base hits.
In the Cape Cod League, Aaron Baker (Warhem Gatemen) continues to be a productive player for the Gatemen increasing his stats to 16 hits, 10 RBIs and one home run.
Lincoln – Nebraska Head Coach Mike Anderson announced Monday that three players will join the Husker baseball program next season. The group consists of two-way performer Adam Bailey (Scottsdale, Ariz.), infielder Kyle Bubak (Salt Lake City, Utah) and left-handed pitcher Nate Kerkhoff (Overland Park. Kan.).
Bailey hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., and is an outfielder/pitcher at South Mountain Community College for Coach Todd Eastin. In 2008, Bailey earned first-team all-conference honors, hitting .400 with four homers, 21 doubles and 40 RBIs, while also going 1-1 with four saves and a 1.13 ERA in 16 innings of work at South Mountain CC. Bailey began his collegiate career at Arizona State, making 10 appearances in helping the Sun Devils reach the College World Series in 2007. He was a three-time all-region selection at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, helping the team to a 94-8 record and three straight state titles at the school.

Aaron Fitt of Baseball America has put out his predictions for the 2009 College World Series. He expects two teams from the ACC in Miami (FL) and North Carolina to make it back to Omaha after strong 2008 campaigns. He has three teams from the West Coast to make it to the College World Series in Cal-State Fullerton, Oregon State, and the University of San Diego. Playing in front of a sellout crowd of 2,763 at Cardines Field, the USA National Team defeated Newport 8-3 Thursday night. There were also at least eight scouts in attendance, from San Francisco, Boston, Toronto, Atlanta and Kansas City among others, who were beginning their evaluations for the 2009 (and 2010) MLB Drafts. Longtime assistant at Oregon State and former Red Raider becomes eighth head coach in school history
LUBBOCK, Texas - Dan Spencer was formally introduced as the eighth head baseball coach in Texas Tech school history today at a news conference held in the Masked Rider Lobby at Jones AT&T Stadium on the Texas Tech University campus.
Spencer succeeds Larry Hays who spent the last 22 seasons as the head coach of the Red Raiders and stepped down from his position back on June 2. He becomes just the eighth head coach in school history joining E.Y. Freeland (1925-27), R. Higginbotham (1928-29), Bettie Feathers (1954-60), Berl Huffman (1961-67), Kal Segrist (1968-83), Gary Ashby (1984-86) and Larry Hays (1987-2008). Read the rest of this entry »

It was a day for the seniors as Jordan Dodson drove in four runs and Cole St. Clair came on in the fifth to quiet the Texas A&M offense as the Owls took a 9-7 win in Game One of the Houston (Rice) Super Regional at Reckling Park on Saturday. more
The Texas AM Aggies head to Rice this weekend for the best of three Super Regionals between the in-state schools. The Aggies enter with a 42-14 record while going 19-8 in the Big 12. The Rice Owls enter with a 45-13 record and went 21-3 in Conference USA.
