The Georgia Bulldogs defeated Stanford 10-8 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the College World Series championship series which starts on Monday. The Bulldogs finished 3-0 in bracket one defeating Miami 7-4, Stanford 4-3 and then defeating Stanford again today 10-8. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the North Carolina/Fresno State bracket. UNC must defeat Fresno State twice to advance to the championship series while Fresno State can secure their spot in an all Bulldog championship series with a single victory.

ATHENS, Ga. - Brad Feltes’ two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning helped Georgia Tech beat Lipscomb, 6-3, advancing the Yellow Jackets into the championship round of the Athens NCAA Baseball Regional at Georgia’s Foley Field.

Georgia Tech (41-19) will play either Lipscomb or regional host Georgia (those two teams play Sunday at 2 p.m.) Sunday at 6 p.m. A win Sunday night would send the Yellow Jackets to a Super Regional next week. ATHENS, Ga. — The Bisons of Lipscomb University were the story of the day, as the 151st ranked team in the RPI defeated the national #8 seed Georgia 10-7 at Foley Field. The win marked the first NCAA tournament victory for Lipscomb University in any sport.

HOUSTON, Texas - The St. John’s baseball team plated the eventual game-winning run in the top of ninth to defeat No. 9 Texas, 2-1, in the opening game of the NCAA Tournament’s Houston Regional. Senior captain Jeff Grantham plated the game-winner with an RBI fielder’s choice, while Carlos Del Rosario had the other RBI for St. John’s (42-14). Red Storm starter Scott Barnes earned a no-decision after allowing just one run and striking out four in 7.2 strong innings. With the win, the Red Storm set a new school record with 42 wins. Thought this would be a good time to do a follow up on some of the freshmen who have been contributing to their respective teams, as the regular portion of the season has concluded and conference tourneys are ready to begin.

I like to use OPS percentage as a gauge as the equation includes power factors as well as on-base frequency. I have also included the HR and Extra-base hits frequencies to show a player propensity for delivering a big hit. PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior shortstop Jeff Grantham of St. John’s has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while junior RHP Michael Hill of Cincinnati has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week.

Grantham was 10-for-19 (.526) in a 4-1 week for the Red Storm. He scored four times and drove in seven on the strength of three doubles and a home run. In Game 2 against USF, Gratham led off the 10th inning with a walk-off home run, giving STJ a 4-3 win.

Hill hurled a three-hit complete game in leading the Bearcats to a 7-1 win over Seton Hall. He surrendered only three singles and one run, while striking out a career-high 10 batters.
