Ty Boyles Catcher- Gardner Weeb

The CBB has come across 7 more College Baseball Schedules- Michigan, Columbia, Gardner Webb, St. Louis, Kansas, Southeastern Louisiana, and Virginia Tech.

Gardner Webb will play 36 home games out of a 56 2009 College Baseball Schedule. First up on the slate will be 4 game series against Canisius staring on the 20th of February.

Gardner Webb will get the Atlantic Sun Conference started with a series against Presbyterian. They will wrap the season on May 14th against Winthrop and then the Conference Tournament will start the following weekend.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa finished at the bottom of the Big Ten last year and will be looking to improves on those numbers in ‘09. Head Coach Jack Dahm and the Hawkeyes will kick off the 2009 campaign in the Big East/BIG Ten Challenged the weekend of the 20th of February. Iowa will face BIG Ten foe Illinois on Friday, Saturday they will square off against St John, then they will wrap it up with a contest against Georgetown on Sunday the 22nd of February.

In the late 1950s, Drayton McLane Jr. (’59 master’s in food marketing management) would walk from his Michigan State University campus dorm to class and marvel at the beauty and activities at Old College Field. By the spring of 2009, the McLane family will have literally brought “new life” to its baseball facility through a $4 million commitment to enhance one of the most pristine environments in all of intercollegiate athletics. On Sept. 12, 2008, the MSU Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the naming of McLane Baseball Stadium.

Two of the nation’s most prominent collegiate athletic conferences have come to an agreement to participate in a unique and ground-breaking season-opening baseball tournament in Florida. The inaugural BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, will feature 27 games February 20-22, 2009, at various spring training venues in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, API Marketing announced today.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana baseball head coach Tracy Smith and his staff have announced the signing of three additional players to National Letters of Intent during the spring/summer signing period. Shortstop Jake Dunning (Orange Park, Fla./Florida Community College), right-handed pitcher Wyatt Hoff (La Jolla, Calif./LaJolla) and left-handed pitcher Matt Igel (Vincennes, Ind./Rivet) will join the Hoosier squad this fall.

Fighting Illini Wrap Up Successful Summer

A number of Fighting Illini finished their summer seasons with great success in recent weeks, as Casey McMurray’s Santa Barbara Foresters won the National Baseball Congress World Series, Joe Bonadonna and Brandon Wikoff finished second in the Northwoods League playoffs with the Madison Mallards and Nick Stockwell led the Lombard Orioles to a second-place finish at the Stan Musial World Series. EAST LANSING, Mich. - First-year head baseball coach Jake Boss Jr. has named Mark Van Ameyde and Billy Gernon as assistant coaches. Van Ameyde (VAN-uh-mead) was an assistant on Boss’ staff last year at Eastern Michigan, while Gernon arrives in East Lansing with nine years of head coaching experience at IPFW.

“I’m very excited to add Mark Van Ameyde and Billy Gernon to the Michigan State baseball family,” said Boss. “Both are very dynamic, high energy individuals who are very passionate about winning and doing things the right way. They are both high character and family men who share many of the same values I have.

I know we don’t cover Minor League baseball in general but the 2008 USA Baseball Team was announced today with a bunch of players with collegiate experience in the last few seasons including one player who will be entering his junior season at San Diego State in the fall. Drew Rucinski, Luray Wranglers, RHP, Fr. Broken Arrow, Okla. (Ohio State)

Rucinski, a right-handed freshman from Ohio State, had a notable week with eight strikeouts and three hits, all singles, against him while pitching seven innings with a .136 opponent batting average. Rucinski did not allow a run to share the league lead with a 0.00 ERA for the week. For the season, Rucinski has an era of 1.77 and 21 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings pitched. EAST LANSING, Mich. - Jake Boss Jr., who in his first season at Eastern Michigan led the Eagles to the 2008 NCAA Tournament, has been named Michigan State University’s 16th head baseball coach. Boss, the 2008 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, will be formally introduced by MSU Athletics Director Mark Hollis at a press conference scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Kobs Field. I had been warned in the past that the deeper you go into Michigan’s rotation, the suspect it gets. It was never more evident than in the Michigan-Kentucky game on Sunday. Kentucky scored 7 runs in their first inning and added two more in the second. Michigan starter Jeff DeCarlo gave up a hit, a wild pitch and two walks before getting yanked in favor of Ben Jenzen. Jenzen didn’t fare much better. He gave up three consecutive doubles to Collin Cowgill, Brian Spear and Chris Wade which quickly made it 5-1 Kentucky. We start to see some players shine in day 2 at Ann Arbor. Players like Arizona’s C.J Ziegler and Kentucky’s Sawyer Carrol really came through for their teams. But first, some unfinished business between Michigan and Kentucky from the night before.
