WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association has awarded its 2010 and 2011 baseball championships to UNC Wilmington, extending the school’s run of hosting the event to eight consecutive seasons and 10 times overall.

ShareSouth Carolina moved into the championship round of the Greenville Regional with a 12-2 win over host East Carolina Saturday night at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Pirates, who beat Binghamton earlier Saturday, 11-7, in a first-round game postponed from Friday, meet Binghamton again at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the winner advancing to face the Gamecocks at 6 p.m. USC can advance to the Super Regionals with a win either Sunday or Monday night. ATLANTA, Ga. — Jimmy Reyes struck out a career-high 14 hitters and allowed just three runs on eight hits in 8.0 innings to lead the 22nd-ranked and second-seeded Elon Phoenix to a 4-3 victory over fourth-seeded Georgia State in an elimination game at the Atlanta Regional of the 2009 NCAA Baseball Championship on Saturday afternoon. South Carolina won its opener over George Mason, but East Carolina and Binghamton were rained out in the second game Friday in the Greenville Regional at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Share Game 1: #3 Southern Miss 17, #2 Elon 15
Senior second baseman Bennett Davis’ three home runs were not enough for Elon in a 17-15 loss to the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.
The two teams combined for 71 total bases, the 4th highest ever total in an NCAA regional game. The slugfest also featured 11 home runs and 34 hits.
Bo Davis, senior right fielder for Southern Miss, hit his second home run of the game in the 9th inning to put the Golden Eagles ahead for good. Elon scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th, but those runs were not enough. Southern Miss advances in the winners’ bracket of the Atlanta regional. Read the rest of this entry »

East Carolina will host the 2009 Greenville Regional at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The first game of the regional will be between the two seed, South Carolina Gamecocks, and the three seed, George Mason Patriots, at 3 p.m. ET on Friday. The host team and one seed, East Carolina, will then take on Binghamton at 7 p.m ET.
The first elimination game is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, and the winner’s bracket championship will be that night at 6 p.m. ET. The loser’s bracket championship will be Sunday at 2 p.m. ET with the first championship game to follow that evening at 6 p.m. ET. Share Georgia Tech’s Russ Chandler Stadium plays host to the Atlanta regional, its 9th NCAA regional since 1987.
The #1 seed Georgia Tech faces Colonial Athletic Association champion and cross-town rival Georgia State at 7pm Friday. The two teams have met twice this season with the road team winning each game: Georgia State defeating Georgia Tech 10-1 at Russ Chandler Stadium and Georgia Tech winning 18-2 at Panthersville.
The #2 seed Elon was the Southern Conference regular season champion and will face #3 seed Southern Miss at 3pm Friday. The only prior meetings between the two schools came in 1978 in a 4-game series which Elon won 3-1.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (May 19, 2009) – George Mason junior catcher Chris Henderson (Marlton, N.J.) and Patriots’ senior outfielder Scott Krieger (Towson, Md.) were selected as the 2009 CAA baseball Co-Players of the Year in voting by the league’s head coaches.
Henderson was also honored as the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, while Old Dominion pitcher/outfielder Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.) was named CAA Rookie of the Year and George Mason’s Bill Brown was chosen as the CAA Coach of the Year. Read the rest of this entry »

Share The CAA starts tournament play in the final year of the six team format. The conference will cut the number of playoff teams to four next season, which is a shame given the parity this year. Entering the final weekend of play, only two teams had locked up spots, and five teams were battling for the remaining three spots on the final day of the season.
James Madison, which won the tournament last season, was knocked out of the playoffs by George Mason in the final weekend and became the first team with a winning CAA record not to make the six team tournament. UNC Wilmington, last season’s regular season champion, will be a three seed heading into the playoffs.
The double elimination tournament starts at noon Wednesday at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C. when top seeded George Mason takes on sixth seeded Delaware. Here’s a rundown of each of the six teams. Read the rest of this entry »
