(PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) and Yasmani Grandal (Miami) hit a home run each and Team USA opened the 2009 Enbridge Northern Pipeline World Baseball Challenge with a 5-2 victory over Canada at Citizen Stadium.
Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit a solo home run over the wall in left field in the first inning to put the U.S. up front early, 1-0.

(CARY, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced Wednesday night the 22 members of its 2009 National Team (Collegiate). The roster is headlined by shortstop and 2008 National Team member Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton; Capey, Puerto Rico), and consists of five outfielders, six infielders, 10 pitchers, and one utility player. (CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team 2-0 in a seven inning intrasquad game on Sunday at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials.
With runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single to right field that easily scored Casey McGrew (Wright State) from third base. (CARY, N.C.) – Casey McGrew (Wright State) drove a double down the left field line and Gerrit Cole (UCLA) stuck out eight as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team, 5-2, at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials, Friday, at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
For the first three innings of the intrasquad game, the pitching ruled. Starting pitchers Cody Martin (Gonzaga) of the Red Team and Gerrit Cole of the Blue Team held their respective opponents off the board for the first three as they combined for only one hit. Read the rest of this entry »

Texas Christian University hosts the 2009 Fort Worth Regional in what looks like one of the more wide open regionals of the tournament. The Horned Frogs meet the Wright State Raiders at 7 p.m. CT on Friday. The two teams take the field after game one of the tournament which will see the two seed Texas A&M Aggies take on the three seed Oregon State Beavers at 2 p.m. CT.
Play will continue on Saturday with the first elimination game scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, followed by the winner’s bracket championship game at 7 p.m. CT. The 2 p.m. game on Sunday will be the loser’s bracket championship game, and the 7 p.m. CT game will be the first championship contest. Read the rest of this entry »
