Rivals College Baseball Editor Kendall Rogers has put out some interesting articles over the last week. The first article focuses on some head coaches around the nation that have failed to live up to expectations. He lists South Florida’s Lelo Prado as disappointing in his first two years in Tampa. I tend to disagree with Rogers since it takes longer then two years to develop a solid program. He brings up Tony Gwynn who has been an absolute disaster with the San Diego State program over the last six years only finishing over .500 in 2004 with a 35-29 record and in 2008 when they went 31-28. The TCU Horned Frog baseball team is set to hold a exhibition game against UT-Arlington Saturday morning at Lupton Stadium. The teams are slated to play an 18-inning game beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
“This is a great opportunity for our players, especially the young ones, to get in some good Division I competition before the actual season begins,” remarked Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle. “It also allows our fans to get a preview of our team in the fall. Our players are very excited about the chance to suit up against another school.”

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU Baseball team released its 2009 schedule Tuesday morning. The 55-game slate features 27 home games, 15 contests against NCAA tournament teams and seven against Super Regional participants. Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State was recently featured in The Ross Report. He talks about his experience this summer with the USA Collegiate National team and then finishing up the summer with the 2008 Olympic Team in Beijing. Golden Eagles Begin Fall Practice
The Oral Roberts University baseball team has begun fall practice in preparation for the 2009 season, where the Golden Eagles look to claim their 12th consecutive conference championship.
ORU’s fall practice runs through mid-October, with intrasquad scrimmages at J.L. Johnson Stadium held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The scrimmages are free and open to the public.

Missouri State Releases Baseball Schedule for 2009
The 2009 Missouri State baseball schedule has been completed and includes a total of 55 games as the Bears move into their sixth season at Hammons Field. The schedule features 26 home dates and 29 road games, 15 games against teams that qualified for the 2008 NCAA Tournament and a three-games series with 2006 and 2007 national champion Oregon State.

The Washington National and San Diego Padres are in the midst of a three game set as both teams battle it out for the worst record in the Majors in 2008. The team that finishes with the worst record will receive the number 1 pick in the 2009 MLB Draft. The consensus number 1 pick right now is Stephen Strasburg out of San Diego State. Siena hires Jimmy Jackson as Assistant Coach
Jimmy Jackson has been hired as assistant baseball coach at Siena effective immediately, as announced today by head coach Tony Rossi. Jackson will work primarily with Siena’s catchers and outfielders.

Baseball America announced that Mike Minor of Vanderbilt was named the Summer POY. Minor had a tremendous summer with the USA Collegiate National Team with two victories over the Cuban Olympic Team at the Haarlem Baseball Week in Holland.  2008 College World Series Champion-Fresno State

Fresno State’s baseball team has been invited by President Bush for a White House ceremony on Nov. 12.
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State’s celebration of the 2008 NCAA baseball title will continue well into the fall.
President George Bush has invited the Bulldogs to come to the White House, school officials were notified late Monday. The team will meet with the President sometime between 1 and 4 p.m. Nov. 12.
The visit is part of a program to honor NCAA spring sports national champions. The Bulldogs were the first championship team offered an invitation. White House officials said President Bush, who is a baseball fan and former owner of the Texas Rangers, was excited about Fresno State’s “Underdogs to Wonderdogs” story.

 Head Coach Bill Kinneberg-Utah Utes

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg has announced the hiring of Pete Flores to the baseball coaching staff. He will serve as a volunteer assistant.
“We are really excited to have Pete join us,” Kinneberg said. “The people he’s been around in his playing and coaching career give him new ideas to bring to the team and I’m very anxious to see him work on the field.”

We recently ran across an article out of the Seattle Times that talks about some of the best prospects for the 2009 draft. Larry Stone wrote the article where he talks with a CBB reader in Keith Law of ESPN and John Manuel of Baseball America. Both of them clearly state that Stephen Strasburg is the top player in the 2009 draft after competing on the 2008 Olympic team and lighting up radar guns during the 2008 collegiate season.  Head Coach Ray Birmingham

Lobo baseball head coach Ray Birmingham recently announced the University of New Mexico schedule for 2009. The Lobos will face five Top 25 teams from 2008, including NCAA College World Series semifinalist Stanford.
“This schedule will be tougher than last season,” said Birmingham. “We played 22 games last season against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. If we are going to be nationally-ranked and advance to the post-season, we have to play these high-caliber teams to get there.”

The United States Olympic Baseball team is taking on the Cuban Olympic team in the semifinals of the Olympic Baseball Tournament at 6 am Eastern time on Friday. The United States is expected to start San Diego State junior to be Stephen Strasberg to the mound where he was outstanding against the Netherlands in his only Olympic start.
