ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The University of New Mexico baseball team will host its annual Cherry-Silver Series this Tuesday through Saturday at Lobo Field. The Lobos will play a five game series with each game lasting seven innings. There is a lot at stake for Lobos on both sides as the culmination of the series will determine the final roster for the 2010 season. Head coach Ray Birmingham will closely observe the action and pick the squad that will make a run at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championship.

LAS VEGAS – The UNLV baseball team will conclude its fall slate with the annual Fall World Series, a three-game series which will get underway Friday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium with Team Black battling Team Scarlet for the title. Admission is free to all the games.
Team Black earned home-field advantage following a strong performance in the head-to-head scrimmages over the previous three weeks, and that squad will be coached by Jeff Prieto. Team Scarlet, which will be the home team in game two of the three-game series, will be coached by Bob Fenn.

LAS VEGAS – A total of 35 home games, matchups with three teams that went to the NCAA Tournament last year and tilts with perennial powers Arizona and Long Beach State highlight the 2010 UNLV baseball schedule, which was announced by the athletics department Friday.
The Rebels open their season at home on Feb. 19 against Sacramento State and that begins a stretch where 19 of UNLV’s first 22 games will be at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, with a total of five teams visiting in the season’s first four weeks. Head coach Buddy Gouldsmith will begin his seventh season guiding the Rebels against his alma mater, as he graduated from Sacramento State in 1992, and he expects it to be the start to an exciting year at Wilson Stadium for Rebel fans.

Share Rivals.com College Baseball editor Kendall Rogers has put out an article detailing five programs that are rising in prestige and five that are starting to fall off the map. The programs that he sees coming on are: TCU, Virginia, East Carolina, Kansas and Ohio State. The five programs that are starting to fall are: Arizona, Baylor, Tulane, Nebraska, and California. He has some interesting commentary on each team as I can see his reasoning on all the programs except for one in Baylor.

Share Head coach Tony Gwynn has released the 2010 schedule for his San Diego State Aztecs. The Aztecs will enter the 2010 campaign without Stephen Strasburg, the first overall selection in the 2009 MLB Draft. SDSU will begin the season with six straight games at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs host Oklahoma and Indiana (Feb. 19-22) opening weekend before a mid-week contest with UC Riverside (Feb. 23) and a split four-game weekend series against cross-town rival San Diego (Feb. 25-28).

Share The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 97 in our countdown with TCU sophomore infielder Taylor Featherston. He comes from Katy, Texas where he attended Taylor High School where he attended Taylor High School. He was a three year letter winner and was rated the 28th best prospect in Texas by Baseball America.
