Share There was an outstanding catch in the College of Charleston-Quinnipiac game which was played on Tuesday. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore right-hander Bryant Gaines struck out a career-best nine batters in six-plus innings, and All-America Dustin Ackley had two home runs among his four hits to pace No. 1 North Carolina to a 12-3 win over Appalachian State Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium. Texas State 7, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but came up short 7-4 in their Southland Conference opener versus Texas State at Whataburger Field on Friday night.
The Islanders drop to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the Southland Conference with the loss, while Texas State is now 4-2 and 1-0.

Share NEC Preseason Favorite Monmouth eyes fourth- ever league crown

Somerset, NJ — Monmouth won five first-place votes to find itself in its familiar position atop the Northeast Conference baseball preseason poll. The Hawks have earned the moniker of NEC preseason favorite in three of the past four years. Central Connecticut State collected two first-place nods to finish second in the vote by the conference’s eight head coaches followed by Wagner which garnered the remaining first-place vote in third. The league office released the annual rankings on Thursday as a prelude to its 23rd season of Division I baseball.

With the start of DIV I College Baseball Season 4 weeks a way, Schools are still finalizing their 2009 Schedule. Today we have Purdue, Alabama State, Central Connecticut, Grambling State, North Carolina A&T State, New York Tech, and Southern. Share The Navy Midshipmen Examiner writer Tom Flynn has an excellent article previewing college baseball in the state of Maryland. He has the Maryland Terrapins as the top program in the state. The Terps usually struggle against the highly competitive teams in the conference but have the best team. He has CAA runner up Towson in the second spot after they went 30-28. The Navy Midshipmen come in at the third spot after another 30 win campaign and an appearance in the Patriot League Championship series. Brooklyn, N.Y. – Long Island University head baseball coach Don Maines announced the 2008 schedule today, with 54 games on the docket. The Blackbirds will kick off the season with a three-game series at Virginia Commonwealth beginning on Feb. 27. Long Island’s schedule also features a trip to the 2009 Palm Beach Challenge.

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University baseball Head Coach Dan Gooley has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent to attend Quinnipiac next fall. Connecticut natives George Dummar, III (Branford, Conn.), Spencer Kane (Wolcott, Conn.), Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Alex Russow (Milford, Conn.) in addition to Derek Lamacchia (White Stone, N.Y.) and Tom Donovan (Marshfield, Mass.) will suit up for the Bobcats next season.
“We are very excited to have all six of these young men joining the Quinnipiac family,” Gooley said. “All of them have had great scholastic success, both on the field and in the classroom. We look forward to their contributions here at Quinnipiac.” Read the rest of this entry »
