Franklin Piece picked up their third and fourth wins of the season on Sunday as they swept a doubleheader from Philadelphia University on Sunday. In game 1, Franklin Pierce rallied from a 2-1 deficit after five innings to pull out a 5-2 victory. The game was tied heading into the top of the ninth with one out Jake Christman hit a double then was promptly driven home by a single from Derek Ingui. All-American candidate Scott Savastano hit a two run homer to give the Ravens the three run lead which they were able to hold onto. WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Bryant University baseball team wrapped up its season-opening weekend in Florida with a 1-1 day on Sunday, completing the sweep of Northeast-10 rival Bentley College while dropping another contest to host Rollins College.

The Bulldogs took an 8-7 win over the Falcons in the first game on 5-of-5 hitting from senior captain Jason Alexander (two RBI, one run scored) and 3-of-6 hitting from sophomore Taylor Ferguson (one run). Read the rest of this entry »

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Sophomore first baseman Garrett Stenhouse (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim HS) had four hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer during a six-run seventh, but Bentley’s comeback bid came up just short as the Falcons dropped a 10-9 decision to Bryant University in non-conference college baseball Sunday afternoon at Rollins College’s Alfond Stadium. WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Bryant University baseball team opened up its 2008 season with a convincing 12-3 victory over Northeast-10 rival Bentley College in Game One of a Saturday doubleheader played at Rollins College.

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 reigning regular season and tournament champions were selected to finish first again as voted upon by the conference’s 13 coaches.

Franklin Pierce University, picked to finish second nationally in Division II by Baseball America, finished 26-4 in the Northeast-10 last year claiming its second straight regular season championship and second tournament championship in three years. (February 4, 2008) – Franklin Pierce University is the unanimous top choice in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America’s (NCBWA) Division II Northeast Regional preseason poll. Franklin Pierce, the defending Northeast Region and Northeast-10 regular season and tournament champions, received all nine first place votes by the committee. East Coast Conference regular season and tournament champion Adelphi University was picked second with 73 points. Northeast region and NE-10 Tournament runners-up Bryant University is third, followed by the University of Massachusetts Lowell in fourth and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions Caldwell College rounds out the top five. Vigurs catching for Bryant UniversityThe Bryant University Media Relations department has put out a great season preview for the 2008 season. Bryant is entering their final season as members of Division 2 as next season they will start the transition to moving to Division 1. Bryant made the Northeast Regional final in 2007 where they lost to Northeast 10 conference rival Franklin Pierce in an intense Regional Final. (A full CBB article about the game is available here) Bryant returns the Northeast Region top pitcher in Eric Loh. He will have two strong starters with Kevin Cobb and Dan Lozeau. The Bulldogs also have the Bryant career leader and two time conference selection Adam Vuolo returning for his senior season. The problem with the Bulldogs in 2007 was the lack of offense as many of their hitters should considerable weaknesses at the plate. Bryant will bring back sophomore catcher Jeff Vigurs and junior second baseman Dave Muscatello who showed some excellent skills in the field during a our visit.
