(CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team 2-0 in a seven inning intrasquad game on Sunday at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials.
With runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single to right field that easily scored Casey McGrew (Wright State) from third base. (CARY, N.C.) – Bryce Brentz (Middle Tennessee State) went 3-3 with a solo home run and the Blue Team picked up a 3-1 win over the Red Team at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
Brentz wasted little time as he kicked off the scoring in the top of the second inning with a 390 foot home run to left centerfield on Red Team starter Drew Pomeranz (Mississippi) for the early 1-0 lead. Read the rest of this entry »

The Tigers and Cowboys play at 7 p.m. Saturday, after an elimination game between Alabama and Tennessee Tech at 3.

Share The Clemson Tigers will be hosting a 2009 NCAA Regional which features Alabama as the number 2 seed, Oklahoma State as the third seed, and Tennessee Tech as the four seed. The Tigers enter the tournament with a 40-19 overall record and finished second in the Atlantic Division of the ACC with a 19-11 record. Alabama on the other hand comes into the tournament with a 37-19 record and went 18-11 in the SEC which was good enough for a third place finish in the Western Division. Oklahoma State enters the tournament as the biggest controversy as they finished the season with a ninth place finish in the Big 12 conference which did not qualify them for the Big 12 Tournament. They have an overall record of 32-22 and finished the Big 12 season with a 9-16 record. Tennessee Tech makes the NCAA Tournament after an extra-inning victory over Jacksonville State to win the Ohio Valley Conference. They currently have a 30-22-1 record after going 10-11-1 record. AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 8 Texas Longhorns demonstrated their offensive firepower with a season-high runs total to defeat the Texas State Bobcats, 12-2, in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk field.
The Longhorns were led offensively by freshman Kevin Lusson who went 4-for-4 and with a walk on the night and scored five runs. Lusson had two doubles and two RBI. All of these numbers were career-highs for the Austin native.

Drew Mason and Drew Flaniken will add depth and experience to a young Bombers club looking for a Texas Collegiate League title in just its third year of existence.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 5, today. Eastern Illinois senior outfielder Brett Nommensen was named National Hitter of the Week, while Michigan State senior right-handed pitcher Nolan Moody was named National Pitcher of the Week. Brett Nommensen, OF • Sr., 5-10, 190 • Fox Grove, Ill. • Eastern Illinois
Nommensen earned his second OVC Player of the Week honor of the season after hitting .769 (10-of-13) with seven runs scored, two dobules, three home runs and nine RBI in four Eastern Illinois wins last week. He reached base safely in 14 of his 17 plate appearances during the week, including in each of his first 13 at-bats of the week.
