Share The Oklahoma State Cowboys blew out the Western Illinois Leathernecks 30-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Oklahoma State coaching staff only made two substitutions in the starting lineup as they continued to pound on the Leathernecks with a 18-3 score after five innings. WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The University of Northern Iowa baseball team matched a school record for runs scored in a 28-17 rout of Indiana Monday afternoon at Chain O’Lakes Park.
Travis Bennett, James Dinizo and Levi Ferguson each tallied five hits to help the Panthers finish with 28 hits. Dinizo also finished with six RBIs and four runs scored, and Bennett finished with five RBIs and five runs scored. The Centenary College Baseball team picked up a 8-3 victory on Tuesday night over number 24 ranked Arkansas. They received a great start from Boone Whiting who allowed five hits and three runs in 7.1 innings of work while two way player Brett Eibner struggled in his 1.2 inning start as he allowed three runs. The Kansas State Wildcats also picked up an upset by beating the Arizona State Sun Devils 6-2. Jason King led the Wildcats offense by going 3 for 3 with a huge three run homer in the eigthth inning. There was two substantial upsets on Sunday with Illinois knocking off LSU for the second time on the weekend and Oral Roberts picking up a victory over Rice. The Illinois squad picked up a great pitching performance from senior RHP Ben Reeser who pitched 8.2 shutout innings against the number 1 ranked LSU Tigers as Illinois won the rubber game 6-2. Oral Roberts used a ninth inning double by Kyle Price to break a 3-3 tie against Rice and eventually walk away with a 5-3 victory over Rice. Read the rest of this entry »

Texas State 7, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but came up short 7-4 in their Southland Conference opener versus Texas State at Whataburger Field on Friday night.
The Islanders drop to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the Southland Conference with the loss, while Texas State is now 4-2 and 1-0.

Centenary 1 at #3 Texas A&M 11
Luke Anders and Kevin Gonzalez drove in four runs apiece and true freshman Ross Hales picked up the win in his first career start as the No. 1-ranked Aggies defeated Centenary College, 11-1, Tuesday night.

Texas A&M 8 Wright State 5
Sophomores Caleb Shofner and Brooks Raley had four hits each on Sunday afternoon as No. 1 Texas A&M rallied for an 8-5 win over Wright State and a series sweep before 3,207 fans at Olsen Field.

Friday, February 20th was the dawn of a new era in Texas Tech baseball. The changing of the guard was officially ushered in with a double header sweep of Southern Utah University and Texas-Pan American, moving Texas Tech to 2-0 for the first time since the 2006 season.
Game 1 got off to a quick start after back-to-back doubles gave the Thunderbirds a 1-0 lead over the Red Raiders. Tech answered quickly with a bases loaded 2-run double from freshman DH Kevin Whitehead and an RBI single from junior LF Taylor Ashby. From there, sophomore RHP Chad Bettis and the rest of the Raiders entered cruise control, finishing off the visitors with a 14-3 victory. Read the rest of this entry »

ELMHURST, Ill. − After winning its record 11th straight league championship a year ago, Oral Roberts was a unanimous decision to claim its 12th consecutive Summit League crown in 2009 as voted by the league’s eight head coaches.
The Golden Eagles collected seven first-place votes for a total of 49 points. Only five points separated the next three teams as Southern Utah placed second with 40 points, Centenary was third with 35 points and South Dakota State is in the fourth slot with 30 points and the final first-place vote. SDSU edged Western Illinois by one point, as the Leathernecks were selected fifth with 29 points. Oakland (17 points), IPFW (13 points) and North Dakota State (11 points) rounded out the voting.

Share Aaron Fitt of Baseball America has an excellent article about how UT-Arlington and Centenary are facing Postseason bans for low APR scores. The NCAA has threaten these two schools to get their academics under control and if they don’t then the baseball programs at both schools will be banned from postseason play.
