The AP is reporting that New Orleans will promote Bruce Peddie to head coach to replace Tom Walter who took the job at Wake Forest in the past week. Peddie has been with the school for the past three seasons and has 22 years as an assistant during his coaching career. The decision to hire Peddie will not become official for over a month as the school might end up cutting the entire athletic department due to the financial crisis that the school is facing. Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com/Yahoo Sports is reporting that Wake Forest has agreed to terms with New Orleans head coach Tom Walter. He has spent the last five seasons with the Privateers accumulating a less then stellar 153-147 record at the school. This record is deceptive as UNO had to face the Hurricane Katrina disaster which took the members of the squad’s minds off the field for the entire season. This past season saw UNO only go 22-33 which is less then impressive but made back to back regionals in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Read the rest of this entry »

OXFORD, Miss. — It was a night for heroics as sophomore left-hander Drew Pomeranz pitched a complete-game with a career-high 16 strikeouts to tie the school’s single game record as No. 9 Ole Miss (43-18) defeated Western Kentucky (42-20) by a score of 4-1 on Monday to advance to an NCAA Super Regional in the NCAA Tournament. OXFORD, Miss. – Western Kentucky University (41-19) jumped on the Missouri Tigers (35-27) early for the second time in three days to post an 11-6 victory on Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium and advance to the program’s first NCAA Regional Championship round appearance in 29 years. The third-seeded Hilltoppers won their second game in three tries in the NCAA Oxford Regional, eliminating the Tigers, and will now face top-seeded and eighth-ranked Ole Miss at 5:00 PM. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Caleb Cotham threw a complete-game four-hit shutout to lead Vanderbilt to a 6-0 win over Middle Tennessee in an elimination game Sunday afternoon at Patterson Stadium.

FULLERTON, CA- Cal State Fullerton senior catcher Dustin Garneau finished 5-for-5 with three runs scored, including the go-ahead run on a Joe Scott single in the sixth, and sophomore right-hander Daniel Renken settled down to strike out six in eight innings of work as the top- seeded Titans defeated third-seeded Gonzaga, 7-4, on Saturday night at Goodwin Field in game four of the 2009 NCAA Baseball Regionals in front of 2,255 fans.

FULLERTON, CA- No. 19 Gonzaga University pounded out 18 hits to post a 19-10 opening game win over #29 Georgia Southern University in the first game of the Fullerton Regional of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon. The 19 runs scored is a season-high for the Zags and the most ever scored by a Gonzaga squad in an NCAA Tournament game, a span of 22 games.
