Heatley’s pitching shuts down Cardinal squad
The Arkansas baseball team began its annual Cardinal-White series on Sunday afternoon with what started as a pitcher’s duel and ended with a solid 5-2 victory for the White team at Baum Stadium.
Junior Jeremy Heatley, the White squad’s starter, pitched six innings of four hit, two run baseball to pick up the win while his counterpart, junior Christian Kowalchuk was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs and seven hits over six innings.

Three Blue team relievers combined to allow just one hit over the final four innings, and Brandon Brown delivered the game-winning run with a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh Saturday at Stanky Field. With the win, the Blue team now holds a 3-2 lead in the 2008 Red and Blue World Series.
Phillip Byrd got things started on the mound for the Blue team. He worked five innings and allowed three runs on four hits. He struck out five batters without issuing a walk, but got a no-decision as he left the game with the score tied 3-3.

Huskers Host Red/White Series; Head to Iowa
The Nebraska baseball program closes the fall portion of its workouts next week with three games, including the Huskers’ first-ever fall road trip.
Nebraska will conduct its annual Red-White Series on Tuesday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Sherman Field (225 West South Street). Tuesday’s first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with Wednesday’s game slated for a 3:05 p.m. first pitch. The Huskers will then travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in the fall finale on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. There is no admission charge for any of the three games next week.

MITCHELL KEYS RALLY AS BLUE TEAM TAKES GAME FOUR 5-4, EVENS SERIES 2-2
In a series that’s gone back and forth so much, it’s only fitting that the Blue team would rally for a come-from-behind win of its own after being on the opposite end in Wednesday’s game three. That’s exactly what happened Thursday night at Stanky Field.
Leading off the bottom of the seventh, freshman catcher Brent Mitchell got the rally started when he hit a towering solo homer that cut the Red team’s lead to 4-3. He topped that hit an inning later with a game-winning, RBI-double as the Blue team overcame a late 4-2 deficit to win game four 5-4 and even the Red and Blue World Series at two games apiece.

Louisiana-Lafayette Baseball Schedule For 2009 is Set
A season-opening, four-game series at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field with Nebraska, 26 total home games and meetings with nine teams which qualified for the 2008 NCAA Tournament highlight Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team’s 2009 schedule which was announced Thursday by head coach Tony Robichaux.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will play 21 games against NCAA Tournament teams from last season. Included are midweek matchups with LSU and Rice, participants in the 2008 World Series, and three-game road series at Southern Mississippi and East Carolina.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns head baseball coach Tony Robichaux announced Wednesday the hiring of Mike Trahan as an assistant coach. His hiring is pending approval by the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.
He replaces John Szefc, who took a similar position at Kansas.
Trahan spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at ULM. His time with the Warhawks hitters and infielders produced immediate results.

Baseball to Scrimmage Saturday at Taylor Stadium
The Mizzou baseball team will continue its fall practice with a scrimmage Saturday before the MU football game against Oklahoma State. The baseball action will get underway at 1:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium. The intersquad scrimmage will be open to the public and is free of charge.

Sean Laird’s three-run double capped off a five-run, ninth-inning rally that erased a 9-5 deficit and gave the Blue team a 10-9 victory in Game Two of the Red and Blue World Series Sunday at Stanky Field.
Trailing 9-5 and on the brink of a 2-0 series deficit, Brad Hammac led off the top of the ninth for the Blue team by reaching on a throwing error. Dominic Diaz followed with single through the left side, and after Nathaniel Lami struck out swinging, Jake Crain reached on another error and Hammac scored to cut the deficit to 9-6.

Behind a rounded offensive attack, ULM defeated Arkansas-Monticello 12-5 Sunday afternoon in fall baseball action. Six Warhawk players recorded multiple hits, led by Ben Soignier’s 2-for-3, 3-RBI outing.
The game does not count towards either of the teams’ overall records; however it does count towards the Warhawks’ 56-game schedule for the season.

Matt Jackson worked five solid innings and Adam Heisler went 3-for-4 to lead the Red team to an 8-2 victory in the opener of the Red and Blue World Series Saturday at Stanky Field.
Jackson’s only blemish was the lone run he allowed in the first inning when Chris Davis doubled and came around to score on a wild pitch. After Davis’ double, Jackson retired 12 of the next 13 batters he faced. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.

Teams have been set for South Alabama’s annual Red and Blue World Series, head baseball coach Steve Kittrell announced Friday. Game one is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Stanky Field.
Seniors Ryan Bohanan, Chris Davis and Greg Johnson headline a Blue team with eight seniors on the 21-player roster. They’re joined by nine freshmen, one sophomore and three juniors.

Leary announces 2009 baseball schedule
Lehigh baseball coach Sean Leary announced the 2009 schedule on Thursday, which includes trips up and down the east coast and appearances in the Palm Beach Challenge and the Liberty Bell Classic.
Leary’s squad will spend the first month of the season on the road, traveling to the warmer-weather South throughout the latter parts of February and early March. The Mountain Hawks open up with a trip to Hattiesburg, Miss., where they will play a three-game set with Southern Miss from Feb. 20-22. The opening weekend will be a challenge for The Mountain Hawks, as the Goldan Eagles won 41 games last season, including 25 in Hattiesburg.

Rosters Set For Baseball Orange & White Series
Tennessee head baseball coach Todd Raleigh announced the rosters Thursday for the second annual Orange & White World Series, a seven-game fall intrasquad series set to begin Friday at Robert M. Lindsey Field at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Friday’s game begins at 6 p.m.
The White team, managed by assistant coach Bradley LeCroy and volunteer assistant coach Nate Headley, will send sophomore left-hander Bryan Morgado to the mound Friday. Morgado’s 4.59 ERA from a season ago is the best of any returning starter, and his five wins last year are tied for the most among returners. In 80 1/3 innings as a freshman, the Miami, Fla., native recorded 104 strikeouts while limiting opposing batters to a .239 average.
