The Orange County Register writer Keith Sharon checks in with Cal-State Fullerton head coach Dave Serrano. Sharon grew up with Serrano in Cerritos CA playing in youth leagues up until high school with him. He talks about how much love that Serrano had for the game based upon how he took a field maintenance job at Cerritos Community College when he had an unpaid assistant coaching job. We now see that Serrano has moved on from the lower levels as he is one of the top college baseball coaches in the country. The full article is available here.

Don Munson who does Play by Play for the Clemson Tigers sent us his weekly interview with Jack Leggett. He talks about this past weekend series with the NC State Wolfpack in which the Tigers won two out of three games. Arizona State head coach Pat Murphy recently talked with 1060 AM The Fan Sports Radio out of Phoenix. He talks about the 2008 season and what impact the ESPN report has made on him. The Clemson University Baseball broadcaster Don Munson has forwarded me an interview with Jack Leggett after yesterday’s 16-2 victory over Boston College. He talks about how the team is trying to get back into the mix into the ACC race. He talks with how the team needs Addison Johnson back into the lineup and how important he is to the Clemson squad. Clemson’s next game is against Coastal Carolina on Tuesday who is an outstanding 15-2. Check out the full interview here.

Opening Statement: We’re excited about the 2008 Longhorn baseball season of course. One of the exciting things is the renovation of UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The renovation is really a complete change in the facility from the fans point of view. I’ve said often if it had been up to me I voted to tear it down and start over, but that would have been a mistake as it has turned out. I think the bowl remaining as a reminder of Disch-Falk field and the roof over the top blended with the new sightlines, new seats, new everything; the whole thing is completely new. Last year, his squad finished with an overall record of 28-28 and 11-14 in the Big East. The College Baseball Blog continues our series of interviews with head coaches checking in with Northeastern Head Coach Neil McPhee who is entering his 23rd season in charge of the team. Last year, his squad finished with an overall record of 24-22 and 12-17 in the CAA which was good enough for eighth place but did not qualify for the CAA tournament. The College Baseball Blog continues our series of interviews with head coaches checking in with St. Edward’s coach Rob Penders. He is entering his second season in charge of the Hilltoppers program after coming over from the University of Texas where he severed as the first base coach for Augie Garrido. Coach Penders come from a long line of family members who are coaches themselves. Rob’s brother Jim is the head baseball coach at Connecticut and his uncle is the head basketball coach at the University of Houston.
1) The St Edawrds Hilltoppers had a 43-15 overall record and went 31-9 in the Heartland Conference. Patrick Colgan (12-0, 1.97 ERA) is the only returning starting pitcher as you lost Niel Smith (7-3, 3.95 ERA) and Casey Plant(8-4, 4.31 ERA) but return closer David Wagner to the squad.
