.Lubbock, Texas - College baseball has narrowed to only 16 teams playing in the Super Regionals, which means the Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year “Wallace Watch” is down to 16 talented players. Twelve players on the “Wallace Watch” will not only take the field this weekend in hopes of securing a spot in the College World Series, but also a spot as one of the top three finalists in pursuit of this year’s Wallace Award. DALLAS - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 18, today. College of Charleston junior third baseman Jeremie Tice was named National Hitter of the Week, while Maryland sophomore right-hander Scott Swinson was named National Pitcher of the Week. LINCOLN, Neb. — The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, working in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, has released the list of 16 semifinalists for the 2008 Dick Howser Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate baseball. The membership of the NCBWA will choose the Dick Howser Trophy based on three rounds of voting. The 2008 winner will be announced just prior to the first game of the College World Series, with a press conference slated for Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m. (CDT) at the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. AUSTIN, Texas –­ Texas Longhorns’ junior pitcher Kenn Kasparek garnered Louisville Slugger’s National Pitcher of the Week Award from Collegiate Baseball and Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week award on Monday to cap off his epic week.

The northpaw threw 17.0 shutout innings on the week, allowing just three hits as opponents batted a miniscule .057 in the two games. Showing outstanding command on the week, Kasparek fanned 18 batters while walking one and hitting two batters.

Lubbock, Texas – The field of candidates aiming for the 2008 Brooks Wallace College Player of the Year Award was reduced to 100 today, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation in Lubbock, TX. Brett Wallace (Arizona State) and Ryan Lavarnway (Yale) were 2007 semifinalists who are now in pursuit of this year’s award. Notable additions to the ’08 list include Buster Posey (Florida State), Josh Romanski (San Diego) and Sawyer Carroll (Kentucky). Outstanding individual performances have earned several ‘newcomers’ a spot in the lineup. Josh Harrison of Cincinnati boasted a perfect 10 for 10 effort. Old Dominion’s Anthony Shawler tied a school record with 18 strikeouts in one game. STARKVILLE, Miss. (NCBWA) - Forty-five relief pitchers are included on the midseason watch list for the fourth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the association announced Thursday. The award is given to the top relief pitcher in Division I college baseball.

The midseason watch list includes four players with double-figure saves totals through April 15, paced by NCAA saves leader Tyler Conn of Southern Miss. The senior lefty has 12 saves, a win and 31 strikeouts in 16 relief appearances and is one of three hurlers on the watch list who have not yielded an earned run in 2008. The 2008 Roger Clemens Award Watch list members was recently announced with 78 players. The list is led by Jacob Thompson of Virginia who was a finalist for the award in 2007 after going 14-0. The list has ten players from the SEC which is the most for any conference with Rice and Arizona State having the most representatives with three each.
