CALDWELL, ID — The College of Idaho, in conjunction with the City of Caldwell and the Caldwell American Legion baseball program, unveiled the Coyotes new baseball field, Wolfe Field, on Tuesday afternoon.

Wolfe Field, named in honor of the Wolfe Family – longtime supporters of The C of I and Caldwell, located at the corner of Griffiths Parkway and Linden Street – about one-half mile east of Simplot Stadium, is currently under construction to become the new home of the Coyote baseball program, along with home of the Caldwell Bobcats and Caldwell Silver Streaks American Legion Teams.

The infield will consist of FieldTurf – the first artificial playing surface on an Idaho baseball field, while the outfield will consist of grass. Funding for Phase 1 is nearly complete, with funding beginning for Phase 2 and 3 of the project. Read the rest of this entry »

NORMAN, Okla. - The interior of the indoor hitting facility is near completion as the netting was recently hung that forms the three full-size hitting/pitching lanes. The turf is expected to be installed in the next couple of weeks. Landscaping has also been recently added to the exterior of the building.

Fullerton, Calif. - Goodwin Field is getting a facelift over the holiday break.

Renovations to the home of the four-time national champions began on Tuesday, most noticeably in and around the infield. Titan Ring of Honor member, and former player and assistant coach Mike “Toad” Wilson and his crew, are giving the infield a much-needed make-over including a laser-grade and new infield dirt and turf.

The South Carolina baseball stadium will now house 6,400 permanent seats for Gamecock fans with a capacity up to 9,000.

University of South Carolina Athletics Director Eric Hyman has announced the addition of 1,000 more permanent seats to the new South Carolina baseball stadium as a result of the high demand for tickets at the new facility. The new facility will house 6,400 permanent seats with standing room only tickets raising the capacity to approximately 9,000. Hyman and South Carolina head baseball coach Ray Tanner met with the media on Thursday afternoon (October 30) to discuss the ongoing construction as well as fall practice. In addition, the Gamecocks announced that the season opening series with Duquesne will begin on Saturday, Feb. 21 to accommodate Gamecock fans planning to attend the season opener in the new ballpark.

FIRST-EVER ISLANDER BASEBALL ALUMNI GAME IS A WIN-WIN

While it may have been an 11-4 win for the current players on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team, the first-ever Islander Alumni Baseball Game held as part of the athletic department’s 10-year celebration was a win-win for both sides.

“The first-ever alumni game was a total success,” said Islander head coach Scott Malone. “We went into the game looking to bridge the gap between the Islanders of the past and the current members of the roster and I think we were able to do that. There is no doubt we intend on making the game an annual event.”

It is has been over 4 weeks since my last update on the new Field Turf going in at Disch Falk Field. Since my last update it shows just bare ground well today they have the New Field Turf laid out and ready for the final touches. They need to put in the cut outs for the base path and the pitching mound and also finish the warning track around the outfield.

In the late 1950s, Drayton McLane Jr. (’59 master’s in food marketing management) would walk from his Michigan State University campus dorm to class and marvel at the beauty and activities at Old College Field. By the spring of 2009, the McLane family will have literally brought “new life” to its baseball facility through a $4 million commitment to enhance one of the most pristine environments in all of intercollegiate athletics. On Sept. 12, 2008, the MSU Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the naming of McLane Baseball Stadium.

Teams from around the nation will start up fall practices where they will have 45 days to conduct 33 fall practices with that being said the Texas Longhorns will be conducting scrimmages at several different locations. Primarily, they will be using the Dell Diamond which serves as the home of the Houston Astros AAA team.

Though the completed baseball stadium is still months away, UCA fans can now take a glimpse into the future with the latest architectural renderings of the project, which were just released by the firm of Wittenberg, Delony & Davidson, Inc.

“You can see we’re getting top-notch quality,” said UCA athletic director Brad Teague. “These renderings give us a great look at what the completed facility will look like. You can see from these images that it is going to be an impressive, Division I-quality stadium that will compare favorably around our league.”

Omaha and the College World Series have been married for 59 years, and the love affair will continue through at least 2035.

The NCAA’s top official said its relationship with Omaha is based on mutual trust and support. He offered that assessment today as he signed a 60-page contract that commits the series to Omaha for an unprecedented 25 years.

The University of Massachusetts baseball program has turned into a bottom feeder in the A-10 and Mike Stone is using the excuse that he has to compete against better programs now with the addition of Charlotte being added to the A-10 recently. I personally think that UMass needs to look at the program at the top since the team has noone that will be drafted this upcoming year and the recruiting needs to step up. Mike Stone complained in a recent Boston Herald article that he only has 2.3 scholarships per class but that comes out to 9.2 scholarships for the entire team. Read the rest of this entry »
