Share The St. Louis Community College district announced that seven out of the 22 sports offered in the 2009-2010 school year will be cut at the end of the year. This includes two baseball programs being cut at the Forest Park and Florissant Valley campuses. It is always a tough day for any student-athlete to see the program ending. Lets hope these student-athletes can find a place to play next year.

Share Baseball America recently put out their Top 25 College Baseball and High School Prospects for the 2010 MLB Draft. The college rankings are led by Bryce Harper who has received national attention for skipping his final two years of high school to play college baseball with Community College of Southern Nevada. The rest of the top five is Anthony Ranaudo from LSU, Deck McGuire from Ga Tech, Levon Washington from Chipola JC, and Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The rest of the top 25 is available below.

Tyler Junior College’s head baseball coach Jon Groth put in his resignation on Monday. He had spent the last 17 years in charge of the program accumulating 451 wins at the school after he restarted the program in 1992. He also won the National Championship in 2007 which was the first in school history. This is an interesting move as Tyler Junior College was kicked out of the Metro Athletic Conference and would become an independent for the 2010 season. It seems that Coach Groth didn’t want to become an independent school again like they were last in the 2003-2004 school year. Read the rest of this entry »

NYCBL East Division Player of the Week: Mark Onorati (Manhattan), Amsterdam
Mark Onorati batted .500 (8-for-16) and drove in a league-high 11 runs in four games for the Mohawks. He smashed two home runs, scored five runs, stole two bases, collected 15 total bases and recorded a .939 slugging percentage. Onorati had three multi-hit and four multi-RBI games. He tallied at least one hit in all four games and homered in back-to-back contests against Glens Falls and Bennington. Onorati currently leads the league with 16 runs scored and 15 RBI.
