Our good friend Kendall Rogers continues to put out solid information about College Baseball. A couple of articles that caught my attention were around Northern Baseball programs and the lack of success. He discusses how the Northern schools are facing challenges both on the field and off the field around the budgets. The other article that he recently wrote is about the decline of several national powers over the last five years. I tend to agree with him with several of the schools. His final article is about how Texas has failed over the last three seasons. He also has a weekly mailbag with the latest edition linked below.

As a part of the US$2.5 Billion, 15-year all-sports television package announced today, ESPN and the Southeastern Conference announced that college baseball will become a regular feature on the world’s largest and most influential sports network.  The official press release gave some pause, as only the SEC tournament appears to be guaranteed air time.  Additionally, at least 3 softball or baseball games will air on the main channels (ESPN and ESPN2); however, Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com has revealed that it is intended that ESPNU will air several regular season games.  All SEC tournament games will appear on the network. SeBaseball has put out their Regional Projections on April 8th. I know I missed this but I have been busy. One of the most interesting things in the projections is that UNC-Wilmington is listed as a regional host coming out of the CAA. The rest of the bracket is pretty much straight forward and is available by clicking here.

Preseason Player of the Year Pedro Alvarez of Vanderbilt suffered what was called a “slight arm injury” at some point after yesterday’s 8-1 win over Oregon State.

In today’s game between #3 Vanderbilt and #1 Arizona State will feature RS Sophomore Andrew Giobbi at 3rd base.

UPDATE: Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com reports that Pedro injured his arm during pregame warmups and that he is being held out for precautionary reasons. The injury is not considered serious. Read Kendall’s report, here.

GAME UPDATE: There’s not much to say other than the fact that Vandy’s array of new pitchers cannot find the plate and have made this game painful to watch. The highlights of the day have been the arcs of Brett Wallace’s MAMMOTH Grand Slam and his equally stuning 3 run homer. Read the rest of this entry »

Rice has been the model program for consistency, so it should come as no surprise that the Owls are back in the national title hunt.

After taking care of business in Regional and Super Regional action last season, the Owls suffered a familiar fate in Omaha — they dropped two-straight games to North Carolina.

The Owls hope to leave no doubt this season.

While uncertainty surrounds the offense, the pitching staff is in outstanding shape.

Ryan Berry, Matt Langwell and Cole St. Clair spearhead the weekend rotation, while Lucas Luetge and Chris Kelley will log significant innings.

Like most teams, the Owls enter the spring with some question marks. However, we fully expect the offense to be better than people think.
