Baseball Mugs The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 10 in our countdown with junior third baseman Tony Thompson from Kansas. He is from Reno, Nevada and attended Galena High School. He picked up four letters playing under Gary McNamara. He had an excellent first three seasons in high school hitting .490 with 23 home runs and 83 RBI while also picking up a 16-7 record with a 3.41 ERA in 27 appearances on the mound.

ACCLOGO The College Baseball Blog kicks off our 2010 Season Previews with the ACC Coastal Division. The North Carolina Tar Heels won the division title in the 2009 season by going 19-10 while Georgia Tech finished in second place with a 17-10-1 record. Miami (FL) came in third with a 18-12 record while Virginia finished in fourth at 16-11-1. Duke finished in fifth place at 15-15 while Virginia Tech finished in last place with a 12-17 record.

We continue the list today with number 40 in our countdown with Arizona State senior outfielder Kole Calhoun. He is from Buckeye Arizona and attended Buckeye High School where he was a four year letter winner while being named All-State twice. He was also named Skyline Region player of the year in 2006 and West Valley player of the year in 2005.

We continue the list today with number 68 in our countdown with UC-Riverside sophomore catcher Rob Brantly. He is a 6’3 195 pound catcher out of Temecula Valley California where he went to Chapparal High School. He picked up four letters in high school including being named 2007-08 First-Team All-League and 2008 First-Team All-Valley and Second-Team All-County. He was picked in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals with the 1378 overall selection but decided to attend UC-Riverside.

FROM BASEBALL AMERICA PRESS RELEASE

BaseballAmerica DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.

BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

NorthwoodsUmpires The St. Cloud Times has an excellent article looking at Northwoods League umpires Rick Brennan and Ron Brooks who have spent the summer with the league. They have spent the summer traveling through the league facing multiple hour road trips between cities before heading out to the games.
