South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 reigning regular season and tournament champions were selected to finish first again as voted upon by the conference’s 13 coaches.
Franklin Pierce University, picked to finish second nationally in Division II by Baseball America, finished 26-4 in the Northeast-10 last year claiming its second straight regular season championship and second tournament championship in three years. Share CSTV contributor Eric Sorenson checks in with two conferences previews in the Atlantic 10 and America East. In the Atlantic 10, he lists Charlotte as the clear favorite with Richmond, Fordham, and St. Bonaventure as contenders. His darkhorse in the conference is Xavier. The full A-10 preview is available here. In America East, Eric can not decided on any clear favorite listing Albany, Binghamton, Maine and Stony Brook as contenders for the conference championship. Share The College Baseball Blog continues our series of previews this week checking in on the Atlantic Division of the ACC. The CBB attends about 10-15 ACC games a season including seeing some of the players in the Cape Cod League. FSU won the division last season with an outstanding record of 49-13. EDISON, N.J. – Canisius College is the top choice to win it all during the 2008 MAAC baseball season, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Canisius finished with 71 points in the poll, four points ahead of second-place Manhattan College (67). Marist College placed third with 66 points. Fairfield University and Siena College tied for fourth place (50), followed by Rider University (36), Saint Peter’s College (34), Iona College (19), and Niagara University (12). Share Kendall Rogers has put out his ACC Preview for the 2008 season. He lists Florida State as the favorite in the Atlantic Division and Miami as the favorite in the Coastal Division. The full article is available here.

MACON, Ga. – Stetson is the overwhelming favorite to repeat as Atlantic Sun Conference baseball champion in 2008 in the league’s preseason poll. The Hatters garnered eight of 12 first place votes in the poll conducted among the conference’s head coaches. Hatter outfielder Justin Bass and Lipscomb catcher Caleb Joseph split preseason Player of the Year honors, while Lipscomb’s Rex Brothers claimed Pitcher of the Year honors. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been unanimously voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite, as voted by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches and Sports Information Directors, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, Chanticleers’ junior outfielder David Sappelt (Saxapahaw, N.C.) has been voted the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, while junior teammate Bobby Gagg (Hamburg, N.J.) was voted Preseason Pitcher of the Year by the panel. Coming off a second straight trip to the College World Series, Rice has been selected as the preseason favorite in the 2008 Conference USA baseball poll, chosen by the league’s nine head coaches. Owls junior outfielder/designated hitter Aaron Luna, a preseason All-American, is the Preseason C-USA Player of the Year. Share The West Coast Conference announced the 2008 Preseason Conference Poll as selected by the coaches. San Diego is selected to finish in first place as they received seven out of a possible eight first place votes with Santa Clara getting the other one. Pepperdine comes in second place followed by Santa Clara in third place. The conference should be decided by these three schools as they all return veteran squads. The rest of the poll is filled with LMU, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Portland, and St. Mary’s. The full press release is available by clicking here.

Share The CBB continues our series of previews of different conferences throughout the nation. This week we check in on the America East conference which had Binghamton win the Regular Season title and Albany won the conference tournament in a classic 1-0 pitching duel. Albany was put into the Arkansas regional where they lost to Arkansas 9-0 and Creighton 21-11. The conference tournament will be double elimination at the number 1 seed’s home field. Share The CBB continues their series of articles previewing different conferences throughout the country. This week we check in on the Patriot League. Lafayette won the Patriot League title by sweeping Army in the Patriot League Championship series after Army knocked off Navy in the opening round of the Patriot League playoffs. Lafayette lost to Virginia 5-1 and Rutgers 11-10 in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The 2008 season will be the first time that the Patriot League will allow four schools into their postseason tournament which will consist of a best out of three semifinal round followed by a championship series the next weekend.
