For the second consecutive game, it was a Tiger pitcher who garnered Player of the Game recognition as junior lefthander Brennon Martin struck out four and allowed two runs in five innings to lead the Gray squad to a 9-5 win over the Blue in Game 2 of the annual Garibaldi’s Series. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team and Indian River State College battled to a scoreless tie Friday night in the Hurricanes’ second fall scrimmage this week at Mark Light Field. Reno, Nev. – The blue team defeated the white squad 7-5 on Friday morning in game two of the University of Nevada baseball teams Blue versus White series that will conclude fall practice. The blue team won Thursday’s contest 16-8 and now hold a 2-0 lead in the five-game series that resumes on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Peccole Park. All games are free and open to the public.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team won the first of its two scrimmages this week with a 7-5 victory over Miami Dade College Thursday night at Mark Light Field. Miami, trailing 2-1 after four, scored two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and another in the eighth to pull ahead for the two-run win.
With the Hurricanes trailing the Sharks 4-3 in the sixth inning, Ryan Jackson put UM up 5-4 when he smacked a double to center, scoring David Villasuso from second and eventually Jonathan Weislow from first following a MDC throwing error. Read the rest of this entry »

TAMPA – After the first game of the University of South Florida Fall Baseball World Series was halted at a 4-4 tie in the 10th on Wednesday, the Grey Team took Game Two by a score of 16-4 Thursday night at Red McEwen Field.
“We really came out and swung the bats,” said Grey team coach Charles Cleveland. “Then we got that big 10-run inning that let us relax a little bit.”

Cullowhee, N.C. – Senior J.C. Lyons rapped a game-winning single to left field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning of a five-inning contest Thursday evening as the Gold Squad seized game one of the Western Carolina Catamount Baseball Fall World Series with a 3-2 extra inning victory.
Sophomore Matt Johns opened the second extra frame with a one-out double before advancing to third following a two-out intentional pass and a hit batsman. With the bases full, Lyons rifled a shot to left that dropped in for his lone base hit of the night allowing Johns to score the game winner for the Gold Squad, which wore the off-white, vintage uniforms.

BATON ROUGE — LSU sophomore right-hander Jordan Nicholson scattered three hits in four innings Thursday, and Leon Landry and Ryan Schimpf each launched home runs as the Gold squad defeated the Purple, 4-1, to complete a sweep of the Purple-Gold World Series in the original Alex Box Stadium.
The Purple-Gold World Series marked the final intrasquad games of LSU’s six-week fall practice session. The Tigers formally complete the fall practice period Friday with a 5 p.m. workout in the stadium.

Reno, Nev. – The blue team won a 16-8 slugfest over the white squad in the first game of the University of Nevada baseball teams Blue versus White series that will conclude fall practice. The blue holds a 1-0 advantage in the five-game series that will continue Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. before taking a break over the weekend. All games are being played at Nevada’s Peccole Park and are free to the public.

Share Junior infielder Nick Liles will lead the Catamounts into their three-game Fall World Series beginning Thursday afternoon at 4:15 pm.

Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina Catamount baseball team will wrap-up its annual fall drills with a three-game, intra-squad scrimmage set in the Fall World Series beginning Thursday (Nov. 6) and continuing Friday and Saturday.
Game times on Thursday and Friday are 4:15 pm, with first pitch in Saturday’s finale set for 11:15 am. All games are free and are open to the public.

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team put the final touches on its fall practice slate over the weekend with second annual Blue-Grey Classic at Chapman Field. The Blue team came out victorious in all three games with each game decided by no more than two runs.
In the opening game, the Blue rallied from a 3-0 deficit to knock off the Grey 7-5. Blue starter Andrew Toppert gave up three runs in the top of the first but then settled in and did not allow another run over his final five innings of work. In six innings, he pitched six innings and gave up three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Brett Gibson got the last five outs for the save.

 Kyle Seager led the Blue team with four hits
CARY, N.C. – Kyle Seager and Greg Holt combined for seven hits, and Colin Bates and Bryant Gaines teamed up for eight shutout innings to lead the White squad to an 8-3 win and a series title in the finale of North Carolina’s Fall World Series Wednesday at Cary’s USA Baseball National Training Complex. BATON ROUGE — Daniel Bradshaw and Paul Bertuccini limited the Purple squad to four hits over six innings Wednesday as the Gold team posted 2-0 victory in Game 2 of the Purple-Gold World Series in the original Alex Box Stadium.
