FROM CONFERENCE RELEASE
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The TCU Horned Frogs have been selected to win their third straight regular season Mountain West Conference baseball championship in 2008. In a vote of the seven MWC head coaches and a select media panel, the Horned Frogs received six of a possible nine first-place votes and 60 points, while BYU (three first-place votes) received 52 points to finish second in the poll. EXCERPT FROM PRESS RELEASE
Oklahoma State enters the 2008 season looking to build on its best showing in nearly a decade.

The Cowboys are fresh off the second Super Regional appearance in school history and hungry to take the next step and return to the College World Series.

Coach Frank Anderson’s ballclub lost six position starters from a year ago, including the entire outfield, but returns a pair of veterans among the best in the Big 12 Conference at their respective positions along with a strong mix of newcomers.

Wong at SecondCSTV has started up their season preview with Doug Kroll checking in with two-time National Champion Oregon State. They have become a power in the Northwest as they have been to the CWS three times over the last 3 seasons with the back to back national titles in the last two seasons. OSU’s recent success has made the Oregon Ducks bring back their baseball program in 2009. The full article from CSTV is available here.

The UAB Media Relations department continues their season preview today when they check in on the Infield. They have some veterans and some inexperienced players looking to secure spots in the field for the season. Ryan Keedy is the top returning player after hitting .333 with 33 RBI in 2007 season. Stephen F. Austin continues their previews for the 2008 season focusing on the relievers. Richard Folmer took over the closer’s role accumulating a 0.45 ERA in his final 13 appearances. The full preview is available here.

The Siena Media Relations department has put out a substantial preview of the 2008 squad. The team went through a 21 game losing streak finishing the season with a 12-33 campaign. They return the entire infield which has played together since their freshmen campaign as they enter their final season together. The full article is available here.

The Baylor Bears started practice last week led by All-American closer Nick Cassavechia. Baylor brings back six out of nine starters from the 2007 team which qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time since 1998. The Bears are relatively young on the mound as they will have five underclassmen expected to get quality innings on the mound. The full preview is available here.

In his second season at the University of South Florida, head coach Lelo Prado looks for the Bulls baseball team to make waves in the BIG EAST Conference as well as earning a berth into the postseason for the first time since 2002.

“There’s no doubt that we have to compete for a conference championship and get back into the regional,” said Prado. “Our pitching and defense are the keys.
