ChrisHernandezMiami The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 72 in our countdown with Miami (FL) junior LHP Chris Hernandez. He is from Miami Florida and went to high school at Monsignor Pace where he was a four year letterwinner including being named All-State twice. His senior season saw him go 7-2 with a 0.87 ERA while striking out 106 batters. The Detroit Tigers selected him in the 14th round of the 2007 draft but could not come to terms with him which sent Chris to the University of Miami.

ScottWoodward The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 79 in our countdown with Coastal Carolina infielder/outfielder Scott Woodward. He is from Markle Indiana and attended Norwell High School where he led the team to a state championship as a senior. He finished his senior season with a .454 average including 60 runs, seven doubles, 24 runs-batted-in and 30 stolen bases. He was also outstanding on the mound going a perfect 8-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He was named First-Team All-Indiana selection as well as an All-Conference and an All-Area performer. He was also named to the Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason Central Region All-High School Senior Team.

Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State was recently featured in The Ross Report. He talks about his experience this summer with the USA Collegiate National team and then finishing up the summer with the 2008 Olympic Team in Beijing. Auburn sophomore first baseman Hunter Morris spent the summer as a member of the 2008 USA Collegiate National team which won the Haarlem Baseball Week and the FISU Tournament in the Czech Republic. The team ended the summer with a perfect 24-0 record. The Auburn media relations department recently sat down with Morris where he talked about his experience over the summer and some of the highlights from the trip. Read the rest of this entry »

Tom Sheridan who is an intern in the Cal-State Fullerton media relations department has a great article on a trio of Titans players that led the USA Collegiate National Team this summer. The team ended up going 24-0 picking up the Gold Medals in the FISU World Championships games and the Haarlem Baseball Week. Baseball America announced that Mike Minor of Vanderbilt was named the Summer POY. Minor had a tremendous summer with the USA Collegiate National Team with two victories over the Cuban Olympic Team at the Haarlem Baseball Week in Holland. Minor started five games with the team this summer accumulating a 3-0 record with a 0.64 ERA. Read the rest of this entry »

San Fransisco head coach Nino Giarratano spent the summer with Team USA’s Collegiate National Team. The team had a perfect record of 24-0 as they won the FISU Tournament in the Czech Republic and the Haarlem Baseball Week over the Cuban Olympic team. The interview with Coach Giarratano is wide ranging and talks about some of the great experiences he had in Europe and some of the great opportunities that this trip provided him. EDMONTON, Alberta – The USA Baseball 18U National Team’s attempt to earn a gold medal came up one step short today as Korea defeated the Americans 7-0 in the title game of the International Baseball Federation’s XXIII AAA World Junior Championships at Telus Field. EDMONTON, Alberta – Jeff Malm (INF; Las Vegas, Nev.) slapped a two-run, bases-loaded single to ignite a five-run fifth inning and Ryan Weber (RHP; St. Petersburg, Fla.) fashioned a five-hit complete-game performance to lead the USA Baseball 18U National Team to a 7-0 quarterfinal win against Puerto Rico today at the International Baseball Federation’s AAA World Junior Championships. The tournament, featuring the world’s top 18-and-under players from 12 countries, continues Aug. 2 with medal round semifinals. Medal games are set for Aug. 3.
